Flashback 6

***

“Onii-chan?” Mai walked down the stairs when she heard the front door opened. She gasped when she saw Sho carrying wounded Matsumoto into the living room. She ran towards them two. “Onii-chan, what happened?”

“Mai, you should not run.” Sho said while helping Jun to sit on the couch. His shirt was torn at the front and side, Mai threw worried glances at Jun while clinging to his brother.

Sho turned around after he had made Jun comfortable on the couch. “Help me to fetch a glass of water in the kitchen?” he asked his sister.

“Okay!”

“And don’t run!”

“Okay!” Mai vanished to the kitchen, stop mid-track after his brother’s reminder.

Sho turned his attention again to Jun, who was deadly silent besides him.

“Stay here, okay? For a few days.”

“Uncle and auntie will ask.”

“Let them. I will explain.”

Sho can see that Jun was still trembling. His hand was shaking a bit visibly. When he touched Jun’s hand on the couch, Jun flinched hard and retracted his hand immediately.

“I’m sorry.” Sho apologized.

Jun seemed to realize his mistake and shook his head, “No… It’s… not your fault.” He stuttered in panic.

“Hey, it’s okay. Calm down.” Sho soothed, instinct said to hold Jun close, but he refrained himself from doing so, not intended to frighten Jun further.

“Onii-chan, drink.” Mai came back with a glass of water in hand, as Sho had asked.

Sho took the glass in Mai’s hand and passed it to Jun, who took it with two trembling hands. Mai settled in by Sho’s side, watching Jun sipped the drink without saying a word. Jun placed the glass on the low table before breathing in deeply, trying to calm the buzzing in his head. He was still wary with what happened minutes ago and with Sho’s silent presence beside him, he could feel the tension leaving his body slowly.

“I’ll prepare the bath for you, okay? Sit with Mai for a while.”

Jun nodded.

“Mai-chan, keep Matsumoto-oniichan in your company, okay? I’ll be back.”

“Okay, onii-chan.”

Sho pats his sister’s head before walking to his room to find clean clothes for Jun to wear.

“Are you feeling better?” Sho asked when they prepare to go to sleep that night. They had dinner with Sho’s parents and Sho already explained to them about what happened while Jun was busying himself with Sho’s younger brother and sister. He had been very quiet throughout the dinner and now back in their private space, Jun seemed to be more distant than during dinner.

“Un.” Came the short respond.

Sho sat on the futon beside Jun before slowly pulling the skinny teen to his body. “It’s alright now. You are safe.” He soothed.

Jun leaned into the hug, hiding his face in Sho’s shoulder. “I’m scared.”

Sho rubbed his palm soothingly at Jun’s back after Jun said that. He wished he could do something to take Jun’s fear away but his comforting touch was the only thing he could offer right at the moment. He hoped that would be enough to calm Jun down and Jun did. Slowly, his ragged breath became steady and Jun leaned further in Sho’s embrace.

“Can you sleep beside me tonight? I don’t want to sleep alone.” Jun requested, looking at Sho pleadingly.

“Of course. I will not leave you alone tonight. Don’t worry.”

“Thank you, Sho-kun.”

“You were always welcomed here, Jun. Always.” Sho kissed Jun’s head before letting Jun lie on the futon, and he tucked the blanket to Jun’s shoulder. He switched off the light before joining Jun on the single futon, watch him in the dark until he was sure Jun was sleeping soundly beside him before he dozed off too.
