Drabble 3
Jun watched Ken trying to stand on his feet shakily. He supported him, holding his hands and letting go to let the boy try on his own.
“Ken is one year old now.”
“Un.”
“Don’t you want to find a father for him?”
“He already has a father, Nino.”
“You.”
“Matter of fact.”
“What about you, finding a replacement for his other dad?”
“Not a chance.”
“Why?”
“Because Ken’s father can never be replaced. We are his parents.” Jun answered flatly.
“But he never knew about Ken’s existence, Jun.”
“He will, one day.” Jun pulled Ken to him, nuzzling the boy’s stomach playfully. Ken giggled at that, feeling ticklish at Jun’s action.
“How can you be so sure?”
Silence.
“What if Ken ask about his father?”
“I’ll tell him the truth.”
“What is the truth?”
“His father left before he got to see him, but I am willing to wait for him until he came back.”
“How long will it take until he came back?”
“I don’t know, Nino! Can you cut the crap?!” Jun answered frustratedly.
“If you don’t know then why would you wait? Don’t you think he will never come back? Weren’t you just wasting your time, Jun?” Nino insisted in his persuasion. He just couldn’t bear to look at his friend’s loneliness all the time. Jun thought Nino didn’t notice but Nino did!
Jun holds Ken tight to his chest instinctively, glaring to his friend. “What are you trying to get at? I have Ken, I have memories of him and I and I have proof of his existence in my life, what are you trying to get to me, you tell me?!” Jun asked venomously, trying to control his anger. He didn’t mean to get angry to his friend, but he felt like Nino has gone a bit too far. Ken whined in his embrace, startled when Jun raised his voice.
“Okay, Jun I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just.. pity-”
“I don’t need your pity.” Jun cut sharply.
“Okay, I know.” Nino raised both his hands in surrender. “I’m just worried, okay? As a friend I am allowed to worry about you, but if you insist to that, I will not say anything anymore.”
“You better.”
“I won’t. I promise.” Nino returned Jun’s hard stare bravely. He never feared of Jun’s wrath. He will not too, now.
Jun kept glaring, only tore his eyes from Nino when Ken didn’t stop whining in his arms. “Shhshh.. sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, baby. You are my precious baby boy.” Jun rocked the boy gently, trailing kisses around his face.
“I think it’s time to eat. All of us. I’ll help you prepare Ken’s food first.” Nino tried to diffuse the tense air around them by making the cheap excuse but Jun didn’t buy it.
Jun didn’t answer, didn’t agree or stopping Nino when the guy stood up to go to his kitchen. He kept holding his baby in his arms, shushing and rocking him in his tight embrace.
