For Corrine!!

Mao looked as the hand of her watch ticked and ticked. He still hasn’t arrived yet. She had been waiting for the past half an hour, and yet he wasn’t here. He was the one who asked her to meet her here, at Ebisu Garden Place, at 1.00 p.m. Shouldn’t he be the one waiting for her and not the other way round? Mao was getting tired of waiting and she was feeling annoyed. Was he even going to come? Or was he just pranking her? She didn’t even understand why he had asked her out in the first place.

In Mao’s memories, Jun never really talked to her much. He only acted cool and loved to show off his cold side to everyone else. She never pondered whether she had any feelings for him. Heck, she didn’t even know what impressions she had of him!

Enough of all that, her impatience was eating into her. Another ten more minutes had passed. And he still was not here. Worse still, it had started to drizzle. Mao looked around for him, but he was nowhere to be seen. In mere seconds, the raindrops came hitting hard on her in torrents. The weather was really not cooperating with her today. That’s it, she was not going to wait any longer. Jun was really the worst for making a girl like her wait for so long. He was going to get it from her the next time she saw him. Wait, why did I even wait for him for that long? Urgh, I feel like a total idiot.

She made her way to the nearest shelter as fast as she could but she swore the rain stopped. But she could still hear the sounds of the rain hitting the hard ground. Then she felt like there was a presence near where she was, like there was something shielding her from the rain. Suddenly, she felt like... it wasn’t raining on her. She turned to look at someone holding an umbrella over her.

Jun looked different today. He was clad in a leather jacket with a scarf, a t-shirt and jeans. It was his usual wear, but there was something about him that was different from his usual cool aura. What was it? She couldn’t figure it out. His eyes. That expression. It was... warm, a total contrast from the weather.

Mao glared at Jun. He appeared at the very moment when she was about to leave. If it didn’t rain, would he show his face?

“What are you doing?”

“What else am I doing? I’m holding an umbrella for you!”

“Where the hell were you? Have you any idea how long I have waited for you?”

“Of course I do. You waited for exactly an hour before the sky decided that rain should fall on Earth.”

Mao scowled. How could Jun give such a matter-of-factly answer? She didn’t know how she should handle him anymore.

“So if it didn’t rain, you wouldn’t have shown up?” Oops, she blurted exactly what was running through her head...

“Yup. I would have made you wait longer than an hour, so you can consider the rain your saviour.”

WHAT??!! Mao was seriously pissed off now. What kind of guy is he?

She stormed off into the rain, but still she couldn’t feel the rain. She turned her head once again to see an umbrella over her, but the difference was, Jun was standing alone in the rain, despite him being able to stand under the umbrella with her.

What is with this guy?!

“What the hell are you doing, you idiot guy?!”

“Lending you an umbrella.”

Mao grabbed the umbrella from his hands and put the umbrella in his hands again, before storming off for the second time. Somehow she felt different about him now. Why would he get wet for her sake? It just didn’t make any sense.

The sound of the water splashing made her recover from her deep thoughts as she stared at an unbelievable scene. The more this went on, the more she couldn’t understand. Jun just threw the umbrella to the ground, and he was walking towards her really fast.

In a swift movement, it all happened. Mao didn’t even have time to react.

His lips crushed onto hers, and his fingers gripped her neck so tightly. She couldn’t push him away no matter how hard she struggled. She would do anything to get this lunatic away from her, she was that desperate. He kissed her forcefully and just devoured her without considering her feelings at all. But that look in his eyes, it was different, totally different from what he was doing. His eyes were full of love, passionate, but soft. She didn’t know when it happened, but now it felt like he was holding her tenderly, and kissing her so carefully and gently. He wasn’t advancing on her like how he did in the start.

Mao didn’t know why, but she closed her eyes and let him consume her. She let herself to be absorbed in his kiss. She let him hold her closer to him, to let his warmth replace the coldness of the raindrops.

She only stared back at him when he finally released her. He looked apologetic, as if he was sorry for doing that to her, as if he knew that it was wrong of him to do that. Slowly, he released her, but she grabbed his hands and placed them back on her shoulders. She nodded, and then he smiled. With one arm around her shoulders, and the other grasping her hand tightly, they walked off in the rain.

No more need for umbrellas. The rain allowed their love to sprout.
