Name: Ironhide
Series: Transformers (2007/RoTF films, and comics from the same timeline)
Timeline: The final battle of the second movie, after Sam was killed, before Optimus was revived.
Canon Resource Links:
This link goes to Ironhide's wikipedia page on the Transformers Wiki.
However, because it's such a confusing mess of comic-canon and movie-canon,
this link provides a more coherent history. It's a history section written up from another application, and includes the timeline provided by the two movies, the comics Alliance, Defiance and Tales of the Fallen, along with the novel The Veiled Threat.
To put it simply, Ironhide was built to be a soldier in Megatron's army before the war. When it broke out, he defected to the Autobots, and served faithfully under Optimus Prime. He trained new recruits, built weapons, and was generally a huge asset to the Autobots. After the All Spark was lost, he went with Prime's team to search the galaxy for it, ended up on Earth, and had a lot of crazy adventures. The surviving Autobots joined up with the humans when the All Spark was destroyed, protecting the Earth from further Decepticon threats. Then the remaining piece of the All Spark was stolen, Megatron was revived, and the war started all over again. Prime died, leaving the rest of the Autobots to try and stop Megatron from destroying the planet, by reviving the Fallen, and using Earth's sun for energy.
Personality:
Tough-as-nails and no-nonsense, Ironhide is a warrior to the core, despite the fact he tends to be something of a loose cannon--no pun intended--with a temper and actual cannons to back him up. He is fiercely loyal to a given cause--fanatically loyal to the Autobot cause, and utterly devoted to Optimus Prime. However, he tends to be standoffish, occasionally foul-mouthed, and stubborn, going so far as to argue with Optimus before ultimately giving in. Tact is not in his vocabulary, or his core programming. Ironhide has a temper, and although his "bite" is just as bad as his "bark", his displays are often easily settled by those who know how to properly handle him. He's excitable, despite his age, especially where weapons and explosions are concerned. But around pretty much everything else, he acts like a grouchy old man, with a stubborn streak as wide as he is massive.
While he does not give his trust away freely, especially in regards to humanity, once you’ve won it, he can be frighteningly devoted. He does genuinely care about his fellow Autobots, but the Decepticons have a special place in hell, as far as he's concerned--he hates them as much as any living thing can hate another. He feels that any measures are necessary when it comes to defeating said Decepticons. Since a good majority of the soldiers he once knew sided with Megatron, relishing in chaos and destruction, tainting their purpose. In a sense, most of those he knew betrayed their kind, and therefore Ironhide himself--in his opinion. Megatron especially. He worked with them, trusted them, and they ended up trying to kill him, and the Autobots.
"Turning traitor" is a big issue for him; a traitor, he believes, cannot be redeemed. They are scum, and can never be trusted again.
But for the Autobots, and their human allies at NEST and in the children, he would give his life in their defense, without hesitation. He will never, ever, kill those he deems to be innocent--which is usually a synonym for "civilian". Beating them into a pile of unrecognizable scrap, however, does not count as "killing", in his book. It's gotten him into trouble for crossing the line before, as far as physical violence goes. But under no circumstances will he actually take a civilian life. Death is for soldiers and traitors. On this, he will not so much as bend.
He was made for soldiering--for protecting the weaker, the younger, the innocent. Whether that means throwing himself into the fray ahead of one of them, taking the shots meant for another, or giving his own life for them, it doesn't matter to him. He will do so. It isn't so much that he feels certain individuals cannot protect themselves. It's just something he must do, and can't adequately explain why. If he is unable to defend those he cares for, or those he feels he must, it rarely sits well with him. He doesn't know how to protect people from things that can't be fought, and that, for lack of a better word, scares him a little. More accurately, he hates it.
Ironhide is painfully private, almost to the point of phobic. All personal matters, especially his own, are best kept private. He does try to get along with his allies, and with people more outwardly emotional than he is, but he seems to consistently say the wrong thing, and can't for the life of him figure out what he's said wrong or why. Most of his more concerned, sentimental conversations are locked down--the words are supposed to be between the two parties, not the rest of the world.
Emotion still overrides caution, sometimes, and he's not always able to do this, which leaves him ashamed of himself, or merely embarrassed, for a long time afterward. This includes forms of physical affection beyond the odd shove--it's private, it should take place behind closed doors. He has a very clear soft spot for the young -- human or Autobot, as evidenced by his raising of one Autobot, and his treatment of Bumblebee throught his canon.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
His canon abilities -- as befit a giant alien robot are
here. Since he won't be a giant alien robot for the purposes of this game, we'll go with the following:
Strengths:
+ Combat -- Ironhide excells in physical confrontations. He's skilled in several kinds of fighting, hand-to-hand, armed and unarmed.
+ Loyalty -- He's one of those guys who, once you've gained his trust, will follow you, support you, and stand by you until the bitter end.
+ Protectiveness -- As a soldier, he developed a deep-rooted urge to protect what he considers to be his friends, comrades, and charges. He will go to any lengths to do so, going to far as to put himself in the line of fire in front of his friends. He has actually done this on several occasions in canon.
+ Physical strength -- If this were a classic RPG, Ironhide would be the tank. He's big, strong, and durable. He can take hits most others couldn't, and keep right on going.
Weaknesses:
= Stubbornness -- He's hard-headed, thick-headed, stubborn, willful, however you want to put it. Once he gets an idea in his head, or decides on a course of action, it's almost impossible to change his mind.
= Flying -- Ironhide, as a ground-based Autobot, absolutely hates flying. If there is any other feasible means of transportation, by God, he will take it.
= Protectiveness -- Yes, it's both a positive and negative trait. It can lead to Ironhide doing some very foolish things for what he believes to be the defense of his charges.
= Battle damage -- He carries a lot of scars from his long life in combat. Most of them are from flesh wounds, but there are a couple old injuries that frequently give him problems, such as a bad hip, and aching joints.
= Temper -- Ironhide has a temper that is not easily cooled. He's not as quick to anger as some, being just grouchy more often than not, but hit the right sore spot, or threaten one of his charges, and he will not stop until the offending party has been taught a lesson.
= Social situations -- While he's more than capable in battle, Ironhide is more like a bull in a China shop where social graces are concerned. He honestly can't grasp what's expected of him half the time, and so he tends to respond more in short phrases or just grunts.

... I have a question.
[And Ironhide says this as if he were asking something supremely distasteful. As if he's about to ask for someone's used gym sock, or something. His facial expression is the expression one uses when looking at said gym sock.]
We are... given care of these creatures. To look after them. To pit them against one another in combat. And to... keep them enclosed in tiny spheres.
[He grunts.]
Some of you even name them... And so. I... Hmn. I will not... slight my own by calling them only by species. However... there is an issue. Organics require sex-specific names.
[A big, rocky nose pokes itself into view. Ironhide waves a hand at it, shoving the Onix away.]
How do you tell when your charge is made of rock?
Third Person Sample:
"I hate rain."
Behind him, rocks shifted, a sleek, stony head emerging from the gloom. The Autobot sat at the mouth of a small cave, his arms folded, glowering out at the downpour. Cold and damp seeped into his very frame -- or bones, whatever they were called -- and pained him. It was ridiculous. He wasn't that old. He should be perfectly fine. But no. Instead, he was hiding in a cave, waiting until the storm cleared.
At least he wasn't alone. The Onix curled at the back of the cave, as far from the falling water as possible, her eyes gleaming in the dark. She took up most of the space, but that was all right. He couldn't put her back in her container -- ball, whatever it was called. It seemed impossible that a creature as large as Ironhide should have been could fit in so small a space. And the old soldier wasn't interested in performing impossibilities right now.
"I hate it," he said again, and glanced back at the Onix. "Gets in your armor gaps."
The Onix gave him an even stare, one that clearly said she had no idea what he was talking about, but, was willing to hear him out, despite that. She'd likely grown used to such tirades. Ironhide grunted, and reached a hand back to give her an awkward pat on the head.
"Never used to be a human. Used to be an Autobot," he told her, his voice rough, grating in his throat. "Sentient robot. Make sense now?"
The Onix blinked. She rumbled something, and nudged her head against Ironhide's back. He leaned against it. None of this made sense, he still wanted to get home more than anything, but, right now, at least, he could focus on more pressing concerns. Like it or not, this creature was in his care, and he was not an Autobot who took such a thing lightly. He'd have to make sure she was looked after before he even thought of returning home again.
