Excellent. My boys, my troops. And such fine specimens they had brought back this evening. Apparently they were a couple to. Dr Angelman would of course do the standard tests on them, like every time. I needed blood from two blood related vampires. There was no working around it. Up till now, no such luck. It was the most important thing of it all

I looked at Forrest and Graham. Neither of them had made any catches. And, neither of them were very happy about it, especially when Skelman, a rookie, with me, alone, only two of us, had caught two vampires.
"So. The catch. Agent Finn, report."
"Standard sector hunts, professor Walsh. Six teams, all operating four seperate sectors with six teams in reserve with the humvies to bring in any HST'S. Five of the teams saw limited HST activity. Skelman and I, however, observed hostile's seventeen and eighteen, seemingly arguing and we made the capture with a barrage of fire from the taser guns. From the sound of things, these two have quite the heated history and their discussions have been certainly something that the science department might want to examine. Outside of that, there's not much to report."
I was just glad that Skelman wasn't among this meeting, and that it seemed like word hadn't spread about the extraction team getting there alone with hostile seventeen and Skelman in sector thirty-six. I didn't want it known that I had carried hostile eighteen and her luscious eyes, back to the initiative.

Forrest was upset because he, Riley and I were usually a team, and chances are, since Riley had given the sector assignments, that we would have been with him instead of Skelman when the two vampire HST's were captured.
The way that I saw it, we were keeping the streets safe. Nobody saw anything, so the streets were safe and the one team that did, Riley and Skelman on that night, did, made the capture and that was that.
I stood fast, not mentioning anything. If professor Walsh asked us for a report, then I would give her one, but Riley had pretty much summed it up. I sort of doubted that Forrest would be as quiet about the night in question. In fact, he wouldn't out and out lie to Walsh, but he would get creative in his report, just because of his little competiton with Riley.
To me, it was clear, Riley was the better soldier at this point. Forrest was good. But he wasn't as good as Riley and this wasn't a competition.

We were a team, sure, but Riley always went with Gates and I. On the night that he doesn't, he makes a sweet catch and the rest of us are left with jack.
I looked at him as Graham stood quiet, after Riley had given his report. It was no secret that he was Walsh's golden boy, but I was right there. I didn't know if Riley was trying to let me get my own wings, you know, out from under his shadow, but if that were the case, then this decision of his last night, really sucked.
"Gates, Richards and I scoured six sectors, professor Walsh, but there was no action, anywhere. Nothing. We almost had to break up a civilain fight, but of course couldn't do that because of our cover. The only action in town was where Finn and Skelman were. I'm not sure if this town is the demon hotbed that it was said to be, professor."

I waited for the troops to leave before I turned to my desk, grabbing my papers. Time to visit the science team. According to Riley these HST had seemed to know each other. This must be investigated. If we were lucky, these two might have what I needed. Most excellent. It would make Adam strong. And me proud. This city was full of HSTs, abnormally so. It needed cleansing. To any cost. Any cost at all.

I nodded, smiled and walked off, more then just a little curious at to what Forrest was thinking. He was turning our work into some...into some macho pissing contest and that needed to be addressed at once. We were on the same side. This wasn't about getting promoted through the chain with greater speed or success then the other person. If Forrest wanted that, he was going to need to adjust his attitude, anyway.
Once in the elevator, I decided to make my feelings known, especially considering the look on his face.
"What's the problem, Agent Gates? You had your own team, got to run the show. It could have easily been you, Miller and Richards who had made the capture. So, why the attitude? Still all about Forrest and his promotion through the chain, or are you here to do a job? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you would rather be off with babes then here working, and there, lies your problem. I'm devoted to the team, the other men are devoted to the team, to the mission. I only hear you rocking the boat."
We were so close, that I was nearly grabbing his shirt.

Riley went off, and was right, about the cohesiveness of the team, but as it turned out, the two of them were about to fight, and I didn't feel like picking Forrest up off of the ground and carrying him to the infirmary. It was a good thing that I got in the elevator with them, otherwise, Forrest would have taken the first swing, for sure, regardless of rank, which would only lead to problems down the road.
"Ease up, guys. Riley's right about the teamwork, Forrest. Any one of the teams could have made the capture. It's not like he knew where those two vampires were going to be and besides, don't you want to make your own wings, run your own unit for patrols?"
I stepped in between them and pushed the two of them apart.

He was right, but I hated how he got so much of the glory and so much of Walsh' attention. He was one of her TA's. He was the one that you heard being talked about by the scientists and older soldiers. It was annoying.

I looked down at Miller and stepped back. "Ease up, Private. Keep your opinions to yourself. When you've been here long enough to make policy, then you can speak your piece."
The elevator opened and I stormed down the hall. I was in need of some liquor, or maybe just some beer and one of those babes that Riley's skinny ass was talking about. At least I got some, which could happen, because I didn't eat, sleep and breathe the job. So what. I got the job done, and I got me some on the side and it didn't affect my performance.
