So it's this time, the year 2009 is coming to and end. It has been an emotional rollercoaster and that is the truth. There have been numerous ups and downs but I somehow managed to survive it all. There have been celebrity deaths, moving to a new house, work issues, and things to just drive me up the wall. But there has also been the positives. I was able to witness history in the making (a black president). I made new friends, met amazing talented artists, and turned 21! Also, in the world of Entertainment, I was introduced to two new television shows and fell in love watching them. I followed an artist through his journey and now can not get away from him and everything he does. I found two new book series to read and become addicted to, making me want more and more. I watched what is probably going to be the most EPIC movie of the year about a civilization that I hope exists out there in the future. Hey, a girl can dream right? :) So let me begin.
First with the negatives because I like to get that out of the way. There have been, as I have stated, numerous celebrity deaths this year. Though the full list of people that died can be found [url=
http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrities/people/list/celebrity-categories.asp?FD=yod]here[/url], but the one that shocked everyone the most was the King of Pop's.
Micheal Jackson
Micheal Jackson, though somewhat before my time, was and always will be a legend. He brought a new type of pop to the music world. It was a blend of pop, hip-hop, and rock. He did it his way and won the hearts of thousands upon millions upon billions. His music had a mark to it where if you heard it you would say "Yup, that is Micheal". My first song was "Billie Jean" and it remains one of my favorites to this day. A truly amazing talent that I wish I had been able to see before his time. Sadly, that won't happen. He and his music will be missed.
ALAN
Earlier this week, I gave the news that we had lost one of our co-workers, Alan. He was an extremely funny man, let me tell you. Although he was slow with work at times and seemed to himself he obviously cared for his fellow co-workers. He was always 1 hour early for work. It didn't matter if he started at 6am or 8am or even 5pm. He was also there an hour doing his crossword word searches or reading a book. I remember walking in maybe 15 minutes before my shift or something and saying "hello" to him all the time and always thinking he was on lunch when in fact he was just there early. I remember he'd get so easily frusterated with customers and come into the backroom grunting and throwing his hands up in the air saying things like "I can't do it! I can't!" and we'd just giggle. The poor guy. My thoughts are with his family and we will always remember him. :)
Now let's raise our spirits a bit, what do you say? This year has definitely had its positives! I turned 21 in September and have been taking advantage of it too, haha. I won't say I've become like obessed with alocohol or anything, just drinking out every once in awhile. Sometimes when I go out to dinner or if we go clubbin' Saturday nights. But I don't do it ALL the time haha. I think my mom is afraid I'll get addicted, but I'm am positive she has nothing to worry about. I haven't even been drunk yet, just slightly buzzed. I haven't tried all the drinks out there, but I have to say that I love;
&
Adam Lambert
In Feburary of 2009, season 8 of American Idol began and I wasn't sure if I should watch this year or just hear about it from my mom. Luckily, I decided to watch some of the auditions with my mother while typing away on my laptop. People were pretty good, had decent voices and nothing I could really argue against. But there was no one really WOWING me to the point where my eyes were glued to the screen. And...it happened. The San Francisco auditions came on and HE popped on. He sang and it was like my eyes were just fascinated with him. Adam Lambert sang "Rock With You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" at his auditions and BLEW ME AWAY. I knew I had to keep watching...just for him. So I did.
He made it through Hollywood week in one piece. He was picked to be in the TOP 36 and that was when I knew. When he went onto that stage and sang "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" like it was nothing. Brilliant. Amazing. Breath-taking. I was in complete and utter awe with this man. I wanted to hear more so much. For the first time ever, I began voting for a contest during the early rounds of Idol. With DCook I wanted until like top 12 or something...haha. Adam, of course, made it to the top 13 and I could not wait to hear what he sang. "Black and White" was catchy, "Ring of Fire" was sexy, "If I Can't Have You" was breath-taking, and "Born to Be Wild" was EPIC. I think I was jamming so hard along with him. I think "Born to Be Wild" and those ending notes was when I was like "Yup, I love him. He is going to be fucking famous and shit".
And even though he "didn't win" he took over the world. His album is selling far more than Kris's, he's on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine (as well as countless others), he is being mentioned in so many articles, he is on several television shows to perform his single, and he headlined the AMAs! Though...lol, that is another story that I'm sure you've all heard about sixteen billion times. Haha. Yes, he has caused quite the storm, but it's totally him and I love him for it all. I hope his solo tour is rauncy, sexy, and down right DIRTY...because that's Adam. He has his vulnerable beautiful side, but when it comes to it, he just wants to have a great time. :)
During the summer of 2009, I had the pleasure of meeting this brilliant star at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. I was over the moon.
Television
Okay, now for TV! This year of TV has been a good one. Whether it was a continuing series (Heroes, Bones, CSI: NY, etc) or a brand new one. I had a great year of TV this year! There were two new shows, however, that I was introduced and will love always.
First one is a BBC series that aired in the US for the first time this year during the summer. It's called Merlin. It is very loosely based on the Arthurian legends of the mythical wizard Merlin and his relationship with Prince Arthur, but differs significantly from traditional versions of the legend. It is a spell-binding and sword-weilind show filled with something that just pulls you in and you can not get enough of it. Though the first season finished here in the US, the second season was beginning in the UK. Of course, I'm impatient so I watched the UK. The story is beginning to really unfold and I can not wait until the start of the third season in early 2010. :) My favorite character? Well, I'm partial to Arthur just because Bradley James is a HOTTIE. But I do love Merlin and his quirky personality. He's adorable.
If anyone knows me they will know I LOVE musicals. I also love witty shows that have the ability to just make me laugh even if the joke is so random. Roll in an adorable gay character who has a crush on his straight classmate and I'm sold. The music, the drama, the humor. Glee is the perfect show that I think can change a person's opinion on "family values" and show the next generation what kind of reality we live in. As far as the music goes, they use a whole range of everything. Whether it is musicals from the 30s or 40s all the way to Kanye West songs from today. The genres and time periods are wide and I love that they put a modern twist on them so it can attract the generation of today to older types of music. The show is an explosion of excitement and I can not wait for more in the Spring. :)
Books
Okay, that is it for TV shows. Another leisure of mine is reading. I do love to read and I especially love SERIES. This year I was introduced to two series that I know I will not be able to get enough of. And the fact that they will be turning into films makes it THAT MUCH more exciting. So here we go!
The House of Night series is a series of vampire-based fantasy and romance novels. It follows the adventures of Zoey Redbird, a sixteen-year old girl who has just become a fledgling vampire and is required to attend the House of Night boarding school in Tulsa. The series is supposed to only have 9 novels, but rumors are beginning that more may be written. I think that will be the longest series I've ever read. Anyway, I'm usually not one for vampire novels, especially after the Twilight series *siiighs* Like, Twilight, the main gal in this is starting to annoy me. The first few books she's fine but later I just can't stand her, but I DO love the story and some of the other characters. I think Damien, Erik, and the Twins are what keep me reading haha. The latest book, Tempted, seems to have a different type of writing style than the others. It is usually all in Zoey's POV but this one is going by each character, it is rather interesting but I like it better. I hope the rest of the novels will be written this well. I think you should all give this a try! :) The story is rather addicting.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians is a series of adventure and fantasy books. The main character is Percy Jackson who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes. He learns that the legendary beings of Greek mythology still and have always existed, including monsters, cyclopes, empousai, Titans, and also the Olympians (Greek gods) themselves. I was at the theaters seeing Avatar when the trailer to the first book of this series popped up. I thought to myself "OH it must be a book, I'll have to pick it up". I go to Borders and find out the ENTIRE series is out! I could not believe it's already a completed series. So, I bought the first book yesterday and I'm now 110 pages into it. I really like it. The pace of it and everything that is happening to Percy is nicely done. I am sure I will love this series since I am a sucker for fantasy and Greek Mythology :) It kinda reminds me of a cooler and less cheesy version of "Class of the Titans". Though I did like "Class of the Titans". Anyway, I say pick it up! :)
Well that is it. I hope you guys take the time to read through this and PLEASE tell me what you're interests are and such as well! Thanks for reading, if you did. :)
