The cam's half the deal, darling. Now the real challenge's gonna be a decent lens. I use an EF 17-40 when I can ...that is, when I can borrow it. Otherwise it's dreary kit lens boring-
Nevermind me. It's great gear! What do you use when you shoot? I remember some winter shots of you and a friend, and thought to myself, "you should try medium format". Have you tried that?
If you're going (or staying) digital, at this point why even bother with the XTi/400D? Have you had a chance to use a 5D? Link here for a pretty thorough review, stats and all on it. And keep in mind my dream lens.... oh man, I love that wide-angle like mad. Oh man. XD
Of course, those are (350D, 400D, 5D) still just technically 35mm. Medium format film photography (digital backs optional) is a substantial step up from 35mm, and the results are simply spectacular.
For the sake of discussion, let this statement be true: 35mm = 12.x MP. Now compare the MF film sample shown on that wikipedia page. Are you any good at maths? Even without a digital back, MF film can produce a print equivalent or greater to an 80MP image. Imagine that
