Ruthlessly stolen from
chalepa_ta_kala as I'm far too awake and sober for someone who's been drinking as long as I have been tonight. Its actually helped this nasty headache I've had for the last two days. Maybe I'll write about that bizarrity next. Anyway, on with the meme:
1. What was the first car your family had?
My family had been driving long before I was born. My Dad had an ugly Chevette that he took with him to his grave and the family used a giant Dodge Ram full-size van as far as I can recall in my early life.
2. What was the name of your first pet and why?
We had a cat named Pidge and a dog named Shasta. They were there before me, so I can't really say why they were named as they were. I had nothing to do with either of them.
3. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I STILL want to be an astronaut when I grow up.
4. What was the name of your elementary school?
I think I'm the only person in my family who didn't go to pre-school. I am the only person among my siblings who graduated from college. Kindergarten thru 6th grade I spent at Holy Family, a private Catholic school in Citrus Heights.
5. Who was your first best friend?
Jeff Berg. Our parents called us collectively, "Slow and Poke." We were both more intelligent than all our classmates, we just preferred to take our time. I'm still a rather deliberate person.
13. Who was your favorite relative?
My father's youngest brother and youngest sister were a lot of fun. Uncle Kevin and Aunt Patti. Early on, I suspect it was Aunt Patti as I've always gotten along better with women and she spent more time with us.
14. Were you short or tall in elementary school?
Short-ish. I was never tall or abnormally small. Though I did transition from a smaller kid to a bigger kid as the years went on.
15. Were you teased in school?
No. Teased implies that there was some level that I got along with my classmates. I got beat up almost every day. The times I fought back, I held my own against 6 or 7 other boys, but somehow managed to be the only one who got in trouble. I just kinda gave up and developed my superior brain instead.
16. What was the name of your favorite teacher?
Altogether it was one of my thesis advisors in college, Dr. Kelli Costa. Even though I still saved the life of one of the other advisors on several occassions, Dr. Howard Hecker. In high school, it was my English teacher Sister Diana. Middle school was my Spanish & Science teacher, Mrs. Garcia. And elemetary school, who didn't love their third grade teacher? Mine was Mrs. Fiffick. She was tough and had a nasty run with cancer, but still one of my favorite teachers.
17. What was the name of your least favorite teacher?
For college it was that one guy I had a mandatory class with at 9:25 am who pronounced Tutankhamun as Tut-Tut-Come-On. From that class I learned that heavy drinking made me a bright and aware student early on a weekday morning. Prior to that it was my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Sullivan. She had a heart attack half way through the school year and was replaced, but still I was always ticked at her.
18. What was your best subject in school?
English. I almost used that as a major in college, but kept thgat as a minor and focused in Anthropology. The big money I make nowadays is evidence of time well spent.
19. What was your worst subject in school?
Math. Feh!
20. Did you do well in Physical Education?
Hellz yeah, bitches. I was untouchable at Dodgeball. Which was good because I couldn't catch that damn giant ball to save my life. Beyond PE I was an All-Star and MVP catcher at several Little League baseball teams and a recommended black-belt in Tae Kwon Do.
21. Were you clumsy when you were younger?
I was agile, but inattentive which led to several mishaps. That and I totally lack depth perception which is why I was only good at Catcher in baseball.
22. Who was your favorite band as a kid?
I really didn't like music growing up. I really didn't care much for music till I was in about 8th grade. That was the beginning of grunge rock as a mainstream phenomenon. Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers were big early influences when I realized I was interested in music. I know, I was a late developer here. I learned to appreciate 80's music in an effort to fit in with my peers and understand just what the hell was going on.
23. What was your favorite movie as a kid?
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
24. Did your parents read to you?
Not that I remember. Since I was 2 I've been reading on my own.
25. Did you have a favorite book?
No. I read prolifically. Although I really enjoyed the Choose Your Own Adventure series.
26. What was your favorite restaurant as a kid?
King's Table. It was a local buffet place where I could fill up on mashed potatoes and ice cream and coincidentally had my last name. That place has since been converted into a Red Robin last I saw (corner of Sunrise and Arcadia, kitty corner from the Circuit City).
27. What TV or movie star did you have a crush on?
Jennifer Connelly. Ever since Labyrinth I've been hopelessly smitten.
28. Do you now wonder what you were thinking?
Not at all! She's still foxy.
29. Who was your first crush in school?
I jerked off to thoughts of a few of my classmates after I wnet into 7th grade and changes schools and was no longer brutally assaulted every day. My first crush, however, wouldn't come till high school. Her name was Joanna B-.
30. As a child, what kind of car did you want when you grew up?
A flying car.
31. Did your parents spank you?
Unmercifully.
32. Did your parents fight a lot when you were a kid?
Not that I recall because...
33. Did your parents get divorced or stay married?
...my father was killed by a drunk driver when I was 8. A big chunk of my dysfunction against drunk drivers or potentially drunk drivers is traced to this. I remember in college I tackled a person in the campus parking lot who left one of my parties (I had wild parties) because he was going to drive 1/4 miles to his apartment down the road and across on intersection.
35. Did you ever run away from home?
I was caught by a cop within 15 minutes! I kinda gave up over such a monumental inital failure.
36. How old were you when/if you first got glasses?
14. They were bifocals. 20/20 vision, but that no depth perception really hurt things.
37. Did you need braces or a retainer?
2 years in braces. I didn't wear the retainer and so I need braces again.
38. When did you get your period or hit puberty?
About 12 I noticed the hair and started jacking off in earnest. I guess thats as close as you're going to get.
39. Both sexes, when did you start shaving?
14-ish.
40. Girls, when did you start wearing a bra?
N/A
41. What was your first kiss like?
Katie S. was my next door neighbor and I was like 6. It was awkward and unfulfilling. My first post-pubescent serious kiss with intent for hot lovin wasn't really until I was 12 with my friend's sister, Mandy.
42. What did you do on your first date?
With Katie, spent the night at her house on her bunk bed. With Mandy, saw Necessary Roughness (her choice!) at the dollar theaters that used to be at Birdcage Walk.
43. How old were you when you first drank?
4. My grandpa had bad fingernails and always let me have a sip when I opened his beers. With rational intent, about 10.
44. Where was your first house?
My parents still lived in a house for about 3 weeks after I was born, but from then till I we moved to Folsom in 1989 it was Citrus Heights.
