We're all reading a manga (Japanese-art graphic novel) called "Earthian", and I have to admit that I like it.
It was only recently translated into English (the date on the cover is 2005), but the anime (Japanese animation) dates to 1989. I'm not sure when the manga was originally released, so don't ask.
The description from the back of the manga goes:
"Earthian:
Angels are among us. They are scattered across the globe, living in our neighborhoods, observing humanity--the Earthian--in crisis.
Chihaya and Kagetsuya have known each oter since their days at schools. They are friends...and possibly more. These two angels roam the world, compiling lists of the positive and negative traits of humanity. In the process they become involved in the lives of various humans, full of despair: An astronaut about to venture on a dangerous mission, a sorceress running from the mafia, and a mysterious artificially created human are just a few of those beings who Chihaya puts himself at risk to help, much to Kagetsuya's dismay. But after a meeting of angels, it is discovered that a dreaded disease is plaguing a growing legion of angels. Salvation possibly lies in the fallen angel Lord Seraphim--and as Chihaya and Kagetsuya search to find him, he turns up in the most unlikely of places."
Rated: Older Teen (violence, minor/implied sexuality)
(Text copyright Blu Manga.)
The actual anime, I believe (we have that, too), goes farther into the relationship of Kagetsuya and Chihaya (it actually shows them in a very intimate moment, though nothing really happens). Just to clarify: they are both male characters, so yes, I believe they are homosexual (obviously). In the manga, however, they seem to note (several times) that "homosexuality is a sin punishable with death"...So...I'm not sure why it happened more explicitly in the anime rather in the manga.
*Shrug*
We only have volume 1 of the manga, so maybe things change in the coming volumes. We'll have to see.
Other current obsessions:
"Fake" (anime & manga series, also)
"Gundam Wing" (anime series; I'm not sure if it's a manga series)
"Final Fantasy VII" (video game & movie)
"Angel Sanctuary" (anime movie and manga series).
"Queer as Folk" (tv series)
Johnny Depp.
Tim Burton.
George Lopez "Why You Crying?" (stand up comedy special)
Current quote of the moment:
"I will never know/Myself/Until I do this/On my own/And I will never feel/Anything else/Until my wounds/Are healed/I will never be anything/Until I break/Away from me/I will break away/I'll find myself/Today."
