I have to make split-second decisions all the time. I plan everything meticulously, but the best laid plans of mice and men and all that, mean I usually end up changing it all at the last minute.
Which is not to say I don't expect the unexpected. After meeting the Doctor I expect it all the time. So when it actually turns out the organic material we're testing is actually part of an alien lifeform trying to take over the world, my colleagues are all panicking and I'm the one calmly saving the world. I only had time to grab the nearest thing to hand, and fortunately for us it turned out the alien was violently allergic to tea.
