WARNING----Rant ahead---------read it anyway!----
Did a couple of interesting things today... Went to see Bill Murrays new film Broken Flowers. I believed it was great, and I think two other people in the theater agreed with me. :)
But you know what? I think I love it more because of it. I love it when at the end of a movie some moron yells out "stupidest movie ever"... I came close to yelling at him but just laughed instead. You know something, you can hate it all you want, one thing its not is stupid. You may consider it slow and boring, but stupid only comes close to describing the 20 something year old who expects to see Meatballs or Stripes in 2005 played by 50 something Bill Murray. (oh yeah, I should have yelled that at him...)
Where are the other Ghostbusters? Where are the other early SNL stars? Where will the 90's SNL stars be in 20 years? I tell you one thing, if Adam Sandler continues making the films that he does, by 2020 he will be a nobody. Now I like Adam Sandlers movies, but I do not want to see a 50 year old Adam Sandler doing ANYTHING that he does now. Dan Acroyed hasn’t done anything in years besides a small part in 50 First Dates...playing what he always played... Its not going to get you many parts. His best work wasn’t even a comedy, it was My Girl I believe. How about Chevy Chase...yeah... He left SNL after the first season leaving Murray to replace him. Chevy was going to pursue his movie career... Now besides the National Lampoon Vacation movies... What else is there? A small roll in Snow Day I think...playing what he always played, a clumsy dumb guy.
You have to change it up if you want to even hear that your movies suck. Sometimes people are deeper then you think. You people who can't stand a movie that doesn’t have something blow up every two minutes and loved Murray in his more upbeat Ghostbusters days...You should thank God that Murray has a deeper side and that SOMEBODY liked it, otherwise Ghostbusters would have never been made. He didn't want to do it unless the studio would finance the Razors Edge, a much more serious film.
Now I absolutely love Ghost Busters, and Groundhog Day and Scrooged and Stripes and all of Bill Murray in his smart ass days. Thats real comedy, not the crap thats on SNL and most movies today. But you know what? Doesn’t anyone have a romantic side at all? There must be a reason that every comedy also has a little love story in it right? The part in Groundhogs day I remember most is when hes laying in bed with Andie Mcdowwell and hes having a serious conversation with her while she slowly falls asleep. He says something like "I know I don't deserve a girl like you...But if I ever could... Id cherish you." And she didn’t hear it because she was falling asleep... I can relate to that. Then I ran into Rushmore on Comedy Central in about 1999 or something. Its a comedy thats not a comedy. It most definitely has moments of great comedy, but the romantic story takes forefront to the jokes.
THATS LIFE PEOPLE!
And thats what Broken Flowers is, its life. I consider myself to be a funny person, you probably wouldn’t know that about me for awhile though because I don't spend every damn second searching for some stupid joke to say like most jackasses. I'm a smart ass in what I say but I think more importantly in my timing. I think its more based on timing then what you say. You sit there and you don't say much and somebody else is acting like a dumbass and gives you a perfect opportunity to just say two words... You say it and people laugh. Then hes like you little smart ass. Its not my fault you step on your own drawn out jokes. This is why people love me and hate me. I'm shy yes... But it doesent matter where I am or how well I know you... I will come out of nowhere with a smart ass remark. When it comes to me I use it, but I sit there and wait or copy down old jokes for another day. Its all fresh, thats why its so damn funny. Its why I am funny, and the people that know me know that. I hate myself mostly, but I can honestly say that I'm the funniest person a lot of people know.
So when am I going to say something funny?... Fuck you, you dense poor excuse of the habitual if it takes more then 2 minutes- fuck it breakneck of society.
I am not on all the time nor do I want to be. I feel no pressure to say anything funny. Regardless of weather or not I don't say another funny thing in a month I am still funny because when I finaly do say something, its going to be something people remember. You can say all the jokes you want (Mostly the people that never shut up are just repeating other peoples jokes...yeah it was great the first time I heard it, how about you split a brain cell to come up with something on your own?) but 98% of them are going to bomb. Even if your Jim Carey and you have a comedic mind... He always on and just never shuts up...He feels the constant need to be on and entertain everyone around him... Hes sad and pathetic. Those people feel inadequate... Come on... If your that depressed about your small penis just buy the pump okay? Or the surgery ya know, nothing like that inch of pig fat in the middle for your girlfriend to suck on...Yummy... Might want to wait till the second date for that one.
Thats the other thing... When I am a smart ass I'm not always trying to be funny. When I say something your either going to think i'm being serious or your going to think its funny. None of that its obvious its a joke but its not funny awkward laughing crap that you have to do around so many people.
Thats Bill Murray these days. He has always been a smart ass and he still is. But he doesn’t do many movies that are all about that anymore. Its not like he can't do it, Charlie’s Angels he was his old self and Garfield was full of smart ass stuff. Heres the thing, sometimes I can have a streak where I make joke after joke and everyone’s laughing...Sometimes I don't say a thing for weeks... But it shouldn’t matter to people, because no matter how much or little a joke is, its funny and your going to remember it.
Its not always a smart ass thing either... Its just timing... Katie was upset about her stereo and the only thing in my head was I didnt want her to be sad anymore... But I wasn’t planning on doing anything until someone else said something that gave me a perfect opportunity to make her day and provide one of the most memorable moments in my life. He said screw it trash and he kicked it... pointless and not funny, but in a split second I was able to play off him and said "If your going kick it do it right"...and immediately jumped into the air on top of it and immediately instead of crushing it I was flipped backwards about two feet and I was flat on the floor. I didn't expect that... But it was funny. Katie was cracking up the rest of the day. My mission complete, she was no longer sad. We will always remember that. Leading up to that moment there wasn’t much else, she was busy moving and we hadn’t spent much time together, but its all situational. Wouldn’t have happened under ANY other circumstances.
Thats what I felt about the humor in Broken Flowers. There are long periods of time when this "Comedy" has nothing funny happening. But the few times it does it was great. Bill Murray is in the house of one of his ex girlfriends, her daughter is there. She goes to answer the phone and leaves Murray to look around at pictures and stuff. Her cell phone then rings which is where Murray is at, she enters the room FULLY nude, full frontal... The audience gasped it was so shocking, hot but shocking. So later on there all at the dinner table and Murray says "Thats some outfit you had on earlier".... LOL! That was great.
So here is what I'm trying to say. I think Bill Murray is the funniest comedian there is. I am also a deep person and like dramas. STILL, I always go to a Bill Murray film expecting to laugh. I always go there thinking that there is going to be something in that film that makes me laugh and i'm going to love it. Thats what these morons who yell "Worst Film EVER!" have to realize, hes Bill Murray and he is funny. He is going to say something that is great. However, unlike in the past your not going to get it every minute. However, the few jokes that there are, are so special and situational that your not going to get anything like it anywhere else. Bill Murray could redo Cadyshack and give you a million laughs, but none of them would be the same as a Lost In Translation or Rushmore or the Royal Tenninbombs or Broken Flowers. Its Bill Murray, hes great, and he continues to reinvent himself and keep the material fresh.
I recommend it to people who can think and aren’t looking for immediate gratification. Therefore I pretty much don't recommend it... Its a great movie, its a slow road trip movie that has few laughs and absolutely NONE of the fairy tale story that people are so used to these days. Don't except a happy ending, your not going to get it...
just like life.... Slow, with a few really funny moments and lots of sadness, and not the ending you hoped for. Thats life. That’s Broken Flowers. And I’m happy that most people will either love this movie or hate it. If you look at reviews of people who have seen it, its either an A or an F… THAT’S AWESOME! That’s a movie!
SO yeah... I did something else interesting tonight as well but being that it is now morning ill save that for later...also being the fact that no one will bother to read if I attach it to this because none of you read anything longer then two sentences from me anyway!
