A Thanksgiving Story

Wow, ok here we go:

Tuesday: Went home after class. I introduced my parents to Facebook and they had a blast looking through my friends list to see their pics and profiles.

Wednesday:
Left around 9:30am with my little sister Brittany and my cat Lucy for Traverse City. We left early enough that we missed a lot of driving in the snow, because YES, there is snow up there.
Arrived around 2:30ish, left to pick up Aaron at the TC airport.
My parents, little brothers, and sister&brother-in-law arrived in time for pizza, Rachel flew in from NYC at 8pm. We played some Cranium after the boys were in bed.

Thursday:
Kind of a lazy day except for the cooking. Lots of snow. REALLY good food. My cousin Misha came up in the afternoon with his cat. With his cat Dasha, Marla's cat Apollo, and my family's Lucy & Figaro, we had 4 cats - I felt so bad - Aaron's allergic. He was ok though while six of us got together for some Texas Hold 'Em, though Rachel won all $6 in the pot!

Friday:
So much freakin snow that only my lovely Subaru could make it down our steep driveway and up the incline that is our street to leave the neighborhood. To pass the time, Newell gave Rachel and my mother massages to add to his hours he needs to clock in practice - he's taking classes at Schoolcraft to get his massage therapy certificate. My sister's Jetta got stuck midway and we ended up dumping 4 bags of salt & grit to get rid of the ice that accumulated on the asphalt. We ate leftovers and played some more Texas Hold 'Em. Aaron took the first round, I took the second!

Saturday:
Had breakfast at the Omlette Shoppe, a really yummy restaraunt where we were actually able to have one of the calmest (is that a word?) public meals I have ever seen with my younger brothers. There were literally no problems. For anyone who knows my family, this is huge. Brandon kept busy with my mom and the kid's placemat activity and was able to actually sit still for the entire meal. Chris sat by my sisters Rachel and Marla and stayed busy with his Gameboy. Did a little shopping at the Horizon Outlet and then went to the Grand Traverse Mall where we ran some errands and saw the new Harry Potter movie!! Aaron and I had been waiting to see it together, so we were really happy to finally manage it, though it was a little disappointing (I won't go into details for those who have yet to see it). The two of us split off to have dinner, with permission from my mom and we had a date - really nice dinner. When we got back, Newell gave me a massage - he's getting really good at it.

Sunday:
After breakfast, Marla, Newell, and Misha left around 9:30 in their separate cars with their respective cats. Aaron's flight wasn't until 3:45, so we went online to check him in at 11am. His flight from TC to Chicago was cancelled, but the one from Chicago back to Atlanta was still good. We packed our stuff and drove to the airport where the only thing they could find to get him back to Atlanta was a flight direct to Atlanta from GRAND RAPIDS. Rachel's flight on another airline for 12:30 was still good, so she managed to go back to NY ok. Aaron and I went back to the house, got directions to the Grand Rapids airport and from the airport back to school and got on the road. It was really rainy, but we got him to the airport by 4ish and confirmed his 7:30 flight that was delayed until 9. I managed to get back to the dorm by 7. Aaron got back ok but wasn't in his house until midnight. My parents got back home ok with the kids.

Ok, so in between all of that stuff, here's some other stuff:
My parents' van broke down when they came up, an axle fell off or something, so they had to get a rental for the week while it was fixed.

My father told me before I left for TC that I would score major points with Brit if I let her sleep in my bed. I thought the sleeping arrangements would put Brit and I in our room in our beds, Misha in the guest room on the main floor, and Aaron on an air matress in the basement next to my sister's rooms. I got to sleep all 4 nights on that air mattress with my boyfriend. After almost two months of being apart, this was MUCH appreciated and completely unexpected.

My parents have been surprisingly amazing in supporting our relationship. Rachel managed to behave herself and limit her comments to light teasing. Marla and Newell were fine, and Brit asked me if he had proposed yet (We're still in school, still too young, not ready for that kind of talk yet), but she told me she liked him and that I should stay with him. :D Very sweet

Aaron and I are doing well - we've mastered the art of having a relationship over the phone, but I stopped arguing with him about something on Saturday for no reason because Iwas so grateful that I could argue with him in person. This distance thing is only for another month, and I've already started looking for tix to South Carolina for a few days over winter break, but I am so afraid that he'll go back to Georgia after he graduates in May. He assured my parents that he is going to take the Georgia bar and the Michigan bar, and that if he can't find a job with his current boss in Atlanta that he'll be looking up here, but I'm still worried. I want what's best for him and what's best for us. Since I've already signed a lease for an apartment next year and I have to wait until February to find out if I got into the College of Education, it's out of my hands to leave so we can stay together. I don't like feeling that it's out of my hands. But we're both still willing to stay together regardless, and I see a future with him, so I will be patient and wait.

Thanksgiving this year was overall a good weekend, with fun nights and snowy days.
