2009?????

Well, the first couple weeks of 2009 have been pretty rad.  :-)

I went home on New Year's Day, and got to see the whole fam-damily.  I was there until the 7th and we had some awesome adventures.  I will present them with bullet points.

- Billy Joel concert in Ft. Lauderdale.  OH MY GOD.  He was so so so amazing.  I can't even explain it - his energy, his improvisations, his playing the piano with his butt....all amazing.  What a supremely talented man he is.
- Dinner with all the cuzzies for Grandma's 81st birthday.  Good times.
Mom: Hey, your fly is unzipped.
Grams: I know, I might as well leave it open.  I might get lucky later!
- Beach.  It was 80 degrees every day.  HEAVEN!  Scotty poked Portuguese man-o-wars with sticks.  Smart.
- Shopping with Grams for a couple sweaters.  And some shoes.  And a new purse.  And.....delicates.
Grams: Donna, do you want some sexy panties?
Mom: No, what's the point?  You only wear them for like 2 minutes anyway.
- Going to the new Publix near my parents' house and finding out that they sell my FAVORITE chips ever!  So far I had only found them at the 7-11 in Harvard Square.  But now I have another source.
- My brother became about the 9th unsuccessful male who attempted to teach me to play Halo.
- Pierogies.  Lots of pierogies.
- I even had dinner with my grandpa, who I haven't seen in 2 years.  It was a little awkies, but could have been worse.
- Worked on my grad school personal statement.
- Met up with the Twinsies for dinner at Stir Crazy!  They even let me take pictures!
- Snickers ate 6 chocolate alligators that I had bought for my friends to bring back.   Mom seemed unconcerned.
- We put together a 1,000 piece puzzle.  Ah, the nerdiness.
- Mom and I went down to Las Olas and saw Avenue Q!  I've been hearing (and loving) the music for quite a while, but I'd never seen it.

Then I came back to Boston just after a horrific ice storm.  The street, the sidewalk, the cars...everything was cover in a thin, slippery layer of ice.  Thank goodness Mat was there to basically slide me and my suitcases across the ice.  The weather since then has been pretty amazingly cold, with yet another snowstorm on Saturday night.  I had a great weekend though - poker with the boys, and a party for Mat's friend's birthday.  It's cool how we're getting to meet each other's friends.  So far, I've gotten along with his, and he's gotten along with mine.  That bodes well, right?  Aaaaand, how awesome is this - in late Feb/early March, Mat and I are taking a trip down to Florida to spend a long weekend.  Like, not just planning, we have tickets.  He's going to meet my family and see where I grew up and stuff.  I'm really excited, and he says he is too, although he's got to be at least a little scared of my crazy-ass family.

As for grad school apps....I actually did them.  As of today, they are all submitted.  Boston University, Brandeis (just outside of Boston), and Northwestern (Chicago).  And yesterday was the final in my epi class, so that will be wrapped up and ready to send soon - I'm pretty sure it will be a good grade, which can't hurt.

My boss yelled at me today because for every single patient I registered, I put the date as 1/13/2008.  Ooooops.

Unfortunately, I'm descending into the deep dark depths of a cold/cough, which will probably be bronchitis, if I know my angry little 80-year-old smoker lungs.  But I guess in terms of timing, it's not a bad time to get sick.  My apps are in, my class is over, and there's nothing especially big this week or weekend.  Well, there's some nerdy puzzle thing at MIT that I said I'd stop by for (sometime during the 48 - 72 hours), but I think Mat will be so into his nerdness that he won't miss me too much if I can't go.

So, things are good.  A bit uncertain and scary and uncharted, but good.

Happy New Year!
