Sounds like cool idea to me mate, just have three things to say.
One: As im sure you have noticed students tend to have no money and have to go into debt to get through uni, which is never a good thing. Not a big deal just something to be aware of.
Two: Pretty much what has been said already, there arent many history jobs out there and the ones there are available dont tend to pay well, cos the well paying ones get taken by people with more experince in the field.
Three: Get relevant experince, what ever field you decide you want to go into, try and get a sandwich year or some kind of summer placement type stuff, Cos being a graduate with no relevant experince, it can be a bugger finding a job. A sandwich year does mean your degree takes longer and many summer placements are low/ no pay, but it may be worth it in the long run.
If you want to do it cos you like the subject go for it, and having a degree looks good to employers, just be aware the field is limited in job prospects. Or it might be worth thinking about doing something your not quite as passionate about but there is more likely to be a future job in (what i did).
