Gibbs entered the lab silently but Abby could feel the tension rolling off of him as soon as he entered the room. She turned around expertly in her four-inch platform boots and gave him a wide-eyed pout. “I don’t have anything for you!”

He sighed. “Abs-”

“I’m giving it all she’s got, captain!” she protested in her best Scottish accent.

He raised an eyebrow, and she grinned. “I saw the movie this weekend. Oh, Gibbs,” she continued, her voice wavering dreamily. “It was the perfect movie. Action!” She punched a fist in his direction. “Suspense!” She grimaced and mimicked gnawing at her black nails. “And most important of all-” She draped her arms around Gibbs’s neck and he automatically put his hands at her waist, a warm smile on his face. “Romance!” she finished, her voice mockingly low.

Abby’s computer beeped cheerily, and she spun out of Gibbs’s arms straight to her monitor.

She frowned. “Gibbs, you aren’t going to like this.” She motioned him to the screen. “The DNA from the blood on the lamp? It’s the sister’s, not the wife’s.”

“The sister who’s leaving for Peru,” he replied, raising an eyebrow.

“Not anymore,” she shrugged, fingers fast on her keyboard. “I think I like the new Scotty better. Then again, I do have an incalculable amount of love for Simon Pegg. Oh, you’ve got to see Hot Fuzz, Gibbs, it’s the best-” She looked up. He was gone.

She shook her head. “This shit just got real.”
