I have this friend, and said friend has a boyfriend. That's all fine and dandy- they're very cute together, and I really like him. No case of jealous friend because boyfriend is taking up too much of friend's time or anything like that. They were together for about 9 or 10 months, then broke up in this whole sordid affair for about a month and a half, and now they're back together. And they've been good- no big fights, nothing huge, just what you'd call lovers quarrels or some such thing.
For some reason, today was a Bad Day for them. Some things he did just irritated my friend, and she overreacted a little, and things escalated, and he overreacted, and she kicked him out. So, she calls me, in tears.
And I have absolutely no problem with that. Seriously. She's my best friend. I'm glad that I can be of some help to her.
I just find it completely ironic that she's calling me for boyfriend help. I mean, seriously. I have virtually no experience with guys, other than elementary and middle school. I go to an all-girl high school, and weekends are pretty much me catching up on sleep and things I procrastinated on. Never had a boyfriend, no dates, nada.
So, I never have any idea what to say when she calls me. The entire conversation is just me pulling stuff outta my butt. Usually, it works, because its mostly just common sense. But really. NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I don't know if she's supposed to call him, or if she should wait until he calls her, how of his behavior much is normal guy stuff, and how much is him just being an ass, and how much is her exaggerating because she's angry, and how much is her fault, and why are relationships so complicated?
And then I'm torn between two sides. I'm totally on my friend's side, because that's what you do. You side with your friend, especially if it's your best friend. He was wrong, no doubt about it. But then again, she was too. And I somehow have to balance the friendship thing with the kick in th butt thing, and I have really bad balance, let me tell you. So far, so good, though.
So, the moral of the story? Irony is fun. And also a bitch. But fun.
