[025: Voice] Private to Narvin

Jun 23, 2011 17:42

[His voice is quiet and for the most part he sounds as if he's simply reading a letter aloud. Which he's kind of doing, just without actually having written it beforehand.]

Narvin, I fear that as long as you insist on being intimately involved with an alien, I cannot continue our relationship as it is. Should you decide to [stop this madness] end ( Read more... )

narvin is his son now, kinda in love with my bff, rassilon misses his authority, rassilon is easily angered, rassilon is a politician, rassilon acts a lot

I understand better than you imagine. First of all, Narvin is angry. Angry as you are. You insulted the man he loves, in your apology, and mentioned how you injured him as an aside, a post script. And on one level, he's right. Your relationship is non-existent, but that's because both of you elected to engage in this make believe of you, the president, when your term ended with your death and indeed the death of the planet, and him, 'the lackey' as he puts it. He decided, out of a selfish need to feel like he had his power back, to entertain your belief that you remained in control of a planet that may or may not exist in this current time.

That was wrong of him, particularly given your need to grasp at whatever power you could seize. Both natural responses but wrong ones.

Then when your father came on board and you realised that you had incomplete information about him and his motivations. In your anxiousness and your guilt, you elected to try to put yourself in his shoes and Narvin into yours. But Narvin isn't you. And when he made that clear by declaring his relationship with K, he was going off script, and that frightened you and when you're afraid, you're angry. So you hit him.

And now, he wishes to destroy the remnants of the play in which you both take part and you're angry again.

[Rassilon stared at Omega, slowly shaking his head.] Play? Play? It wasn't a play! I cared for him, I cared for him like he was my son, and this is how he repays me! I've defended him against the dwarf, I've trusted him, I tried to comfort him, I cared! I regretted my actions, back on Gallifrey and here, and this is what I get! This!

He he has no idea what he's talking about!

It was never a play. And if I leave him be, then only for your sake.

But before that, you didn't. He was just a tool to you.

By the time he wasn't, Narvin didn't know how to treat you any other way. But he tried. He tried to trust you, like a son would a father. You attacked him. Can you see how contradictory that would appear? A father protects his children, attacking them is the exact opposite.

I thank you for that.

He gave me no reason to think highly of him and the war left me no time to care for individuals.

I told him my reasons and he spat on my will and insulted me! No father would let such disrespectful behaviour slide! And I lost my temper when he denied our people's values. I thought the human must have surely used his madness, to make him say such things. May he rot for all I care now. He never deserved that apology.

Unfortunate, but not his job to fix.

You told him in such a way that he found insulting. If it were said to you, would you have taken it in good grace?

But you can't blame me for that.

I wouldn't have insulted my father. [He only did that when Daddy wasn't around, less troublesome that way.] And I would certainly not have broken his wrists.

He's not you any more than you are your father. He didn't see you as a father. Look at the letter, he doesn't describe mentors or father figures, he describes presidents. He describes himself as a 'lackey'. He attempted to reach out to you and you smashed his face in.

If he thought I was treating him like a lackey, he must have been deaf and blind. A lackey does not get comforted or shown understanding.

And he did mention father figures and then he went on to...!

He did realise the difference, but he didn't understand the source. He went on to describe the same concerns that I did, admittedly with more intent to be insulting, but I wouldn't consider you a good parent for hitting your children.

[He glares.] My concern for him was genuine.

And plenty of parents do, it works.

I never said it wasn't. But you're trying to push him and you into roles that neither of you fit.

My father never laid a hand on me. It's abusive. All it teaches a boy is when to duck.

I didn't do anything like that. I never forced him to think of me as a father. And even if I was just the president for him, his behaviour was unacceptable.

Nonsense.

You're missing the fact that you pushed yourself into that role, and the role doesn't exist without reciprocation.

You're right. It teaches them that even those who protect them will hurt them if they can concoct a reason!

My feelings for other people have nothing to do with pushing anyone into roles!

It teaches them respect! It teaches them not do what they've been punished for again! [Guess who he got that from.]

Because that works with you all the time? Hmm? Was Rose right when she sent for people to come knock you out? After all, she did it with the intent of caring for you, that makes it ok? Makes you respect her?

Care! I saw no care in treating me like a rabid dog! I saw no care in repeatedly ignoring that I said I cannot rest in the infirmary! I saw no care in a single thing that loathsome woman did!
