"Antidepressants controlling tools for your system"

Song Count: 5,435

As the previous post had said, I'm getting married. But, I do need to clarify something with that. 2 years ago (on Beltaine) Jess and I were handfasted. We did a "Year and a day" handfasting, and sorta got it renewed at Ren Fest last year by Mother Superior. What happened on Saturday night, however, was something completley different. I got down on a knee and proposed to her with an engagement ring. So, in essence, I made it more official. And on that note, a huge thank you goes out to Crystal and Aaron for helping me out with this, I don't think it would have turned out right if it weren't for your support and assistance.

Now then, moving on. I pre-ordered Serj Tankian's solo album, "Elect the Dead" from iTunes, and downloaded it yesterday. It is freaking awesome. But, for lovers of System of a Down, be forewarned that it is NOT like System of a Down. The bulk of the CD is accoustic guitar and piano work. Yah, there are songs that are very System-esc (Empty Walls and Unthinking Majority for example), but there are also songs that sound more like Tori Amos than System (the title track, Elect the Dead). Serj found a softer side and went with it.

That is not to say that the new Serj album is weak, quite the contrary. It is different, yes, but it still has the unique sound and unusual flow of Serj Tankian's work with System of a Down (Lie Lie Lie and The Reverend King are very good examples of this, especially the music video for Lie Lie Lie). The words have the power of System's self-titled album...very meaningful lyrics that have deeper meanings when you actually think about them.

I give it a 8.5/10. Serj did an amazing job, and I highly encourage you at least sample the songs on iTunes. But if your only interested in System of a Down, then just download Unthinking Majority and Empty Walls, because those are the only System style songs. (Though I highly suggest checking out Lie Lie Lie on YouTube)
