They've Come to Snuff the Rooster

Friday was a kick-ass concert. Despite the accidental detour (we ended up in Birch Run and missed the Saginaw exit). We made it to the concert only a half hour late. Sadly though, we missed the opening band, which apparently was Skillet. This was the only concert they opened for, but at least we didn't miss any of the main bands.

Seether rocked, but their stage presence was.....lacking. I've been spoiled by seeing Mindless Self Indulgence twice, Linkin Park twice, Metallica twice, and My Chemical Romance once. Those guys have an amazing stage presence (especially MSI). Seether just kinda played their songs, and barely interacted with the crowd. But it was still awesome, and Jess was happy to see them.

Breaking Benjamin, surprisingly rocked. They play a pretty heavy show, considering most of their stuff is kinda medium heavy, and their singer was all about the audience. The kick-ass part was the 15 minute drum solo!!! That was amazing, and the drum solo ended with....DREAM THEATER!! They actually covered a Dream Theater song at the end (for about a minute sadly). I'm not sure how many people in the audience had any clue what they were playing though, but they just upped my respect for them 10-fold. The lead singer also left the stage and walked through the audience, and I chased him half way around the arena, I felt like such a little girl. While he was roaming the stage, the guitarest for Skillet came back out and helped play Change (In the House of Flies) by Deftones. Speaking of Deftones, Chino came out and sung the song!!! So we had Skillet's guitarist, Breaking Benjamin's Bassist, guitarist and drummer, and Deftones Singer doing Change (In the House of Flies)!! I'm not sure which I was more excited for, chasing the singer of Breaking Benjamin, or hearing Chino singing Change (In the House of Flies).

Then there was 3 Days Grace, who put on a kick-ass show. Sadly, I am not too familiar with some of their music. I knew about half their set (which is all the songs they play on the radio). But the singer came out in the middle and asked if it was alright if he played an acoustic jam (which of course the audience screamed for). By the 4th note he played, I knew he was covering Alice in Chains. Fucking Rooster. And he did it justice. I looked around, but it seemed only a 1/3 of the audience had any clue what he was playing. Sad, so very sad. But, he did the song justice. The final song was Home, which was amazing...almost. I'm not sure what was making the noise, but during most of the song, there was an extremely high pitch wailing noise that was really hurting my ears. They also went into Hey Man Nice Shot in the middle of the song...that was great.

Overall, one of the better concerts I've been to. It doesn't live up to Projekt Revolution, The Hard Rock Cafe Rock Fest, Summer Sanitarium, or MSI and Julien K, but it was still a great show. And I'm glad Jess enjoyed herself. I think this is one of the first concerts she's been to that she really enjoyed. But then again, it's the only concert she asked to go to, rather than me saying "Hey! We're going to go see XXX, ask for it off."
