Taken from the front page of http://www.wormtown.org:

TUESDAY NIGHT
Over the past few weeks, there's been heated discussion fired up by Doug Chapel's Action Geek comic in the January 8 issue of Worcester Magazine over whether or not there's a music scene in Worcester, Wormtown, or whatever else you'd like to call this place we call it home. The inhabitants of our somewhat infamous bulletin board were also called into question. I'd like to respond with the following:

A few days prior to Christmas, Arghlene, a regular poster on the Wormtown.org and a fervent supporter of the city's music scene, posted the following on the Wormtown.org bulletin board:

(I'm putting this behind the cut cuz I already posted what I wrote)

"Some things mean more to me than other people. I want to put on a benefit show for something that maybe not a lot of people would care about.

"One of the bussers I work with at the Ground Round has been working everyday for the past 3 years open to close with no day off. He came here from Brazil to earn money to send to his wife and daughter because his daughter has some sort of problem with her legs and needs 3 VERY expensive surgeries. He doesn't spend any money on himself short of rent and bills and literally sends every cent he makes to Brazil. He hasn't seen his family in 3 years and rarely gets to talk to them. His daughter has one more surgery left and then he can go home.

"I was thinking that since there have been so many great benefit shows in the area that one more couldn't hurt anyone. I really want to help him and this is the only way I know how to do it."

This Tuesday, January 20 at 9 p.m., "A benefit for Jociene Pereira" will take place at the Lucky Dog Music Hall, 89 Green Street, Worcester. It'll feature music by THE BEES KNEES, THE CURTAIN SOCIETY, THE BRAINLESS WONDERS, BOTTLEFIGHT, and very special guests - SQUID VICTORY AND THE ASS TICKLERS - a Barry Manilow tribute band making their live debut on this very special night.

Minus Mr. Victory & friends (who will hopefully go onto to a long career and eventual Brown Bag appearance at Mechanics Hall), all the other acts can be found playing on the weekend; most have families and young children at home that they're giving up to play on this early weekday night. A few year ago, before there was a Wormtown.org bulletin board, most of the acts performing did not know each other. Arghlene cared enough to ask people she knew were normally busy or practicing that evening if they'd help out; the above lineup tells you a lot about what the bands think about showing support for the ideas and goals of the people who support them and using their talents to help others. To me, that tells you everything you need to know about the Worcester/Wormtown music scene. (Brian Goslow)

Thanks, Brian :)
