http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/12/11/richard.holbrooke.obit/ Richard Holbrooke died today after a weekend struggle with a torn aorta. Until this news story and his death, I was not aware of this man. And yet, his accomplishments are those that have served the world well, definitely accomplishments that I would have been more than proud to have.
This brings home an important lesson about the great work that people do. Sometimes even really amazing work is not famous or recognized outside of its own small context and onlookers. It reminds me that I should be proud of good work that I do even if no one else knows about it.
I pay my homage to an amazing man whose work was bipartisan through his career. Diplomat Holbrooke, I am deeply impressed, deeply grateful and I am sorry that it has to only be after your death. Thank you for your service. Thank you for doing your job well. Thank you for your life.
