Running for Asha

Aug 31, 2007 09:12

As some of you may already know, I have been training to run for Asha for Education (a non profit group focused on underprivileged childrens' education in India). I am planning to do a half marathon for the Lewis & Clark run in St. Louis on 15th September 2007.

I started training in the winter. In December, running 1 mile was a big deal for me and I took about 17 minutes. In a short 8 months, thanx to Team Asha training, I am now almost ready for the 13.1 mile half marathon. I'm doing 11 minute miles now, but I am hoping also to get to under 10 minutes a mile. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Team Asha will keep running & there are runners at all levels, so if any of you are interested, please join in for any of the runs. There is a Team Asha in almost every major city in the United States.

Take a look at my running profile page (where I explain why the heck I'm doing this to myself)! If you feel inclined to donate, know that it will go to a good cause - to good schools in India that I fully believe in & directly interact with. Particularly, there is a Program in Kerala for rural and displaced tribal children and an school in Tamil Nadu for children of convicts and sex workers for whom I am running.

Wish me luck.
