a silence pounds on the space between her ears
a merciless yet provoked attack
shredding
peeling
stripping
leaving her standing naked
alone
in a white, shining room.
the light that floods over her body
reveals mistakes, regret, self-doubt
in every little curve, each tiny wrinkle in the skin.
not the kind you'd expect of a photo shoot.
not flattering.
it reflects off of the memories
that repeat themselves
as broken records
in her shining eyes.
no need to keep the negatives.
copies won't be necessary.
bulbs flash
capturing initial shock
and inevitable reality
setting in, all in one second's time.
did you catch that?
would it look better in sepia tones?
better yet, smash the lens.
