Life's A Beach.

A cold pressure sweeps over her cheeks,
leaving the sensation of being set to flame.

A gull feeds on lifeless prey, thrown to shore
by the generous yet apathetic crest of a wave.
They tumble gently about the sand and,
while seemingly innocuous,
hold the power of relentless steel.

The serenity of the blues and pinks and greys
that stretch across the tired sky
leave her with a stomach full of moths.
A nauseating, oxymoronic compound of unsettled calm.

She recalls a wind that whistled a brighter tune than this,
and thinks it to be as far as Connecticut by now.
A destination that is seen so clearly,
but so much further than the fingertips.

A remedy of natural elements,
though pure and lovely,
is not always faithful to her weary mind.
She forgives.
Even the sun has to rest sometime.

And as the sky fades
her eyelids fall
and she is left to herself.

Her startled heartbeat slows.
Adaptation. Revelation. Sunrise.
