Ok seriously.
People who bitch about the music industry and pretend they know what theyre talking about need to shut the hell up. Is it that hard to understand that there is a fun side to music, and a business side. 99% of people wouldnt be playing music if it wasnt fun. You've got to understand, a lot of people want to do it to make a living as well, and if youre going to succeed you are going to take the better opportunity, and the more money if it is available. Thats all there is too it. You cant just play the "you should be doing it for fun and not for the money" card on them because youre making hard working bands look like assholes, just because they want to succeed and be able to live off of what they do. Just because some band doesnt want to play a show with a bunch of tiny no namer bands, vs. playing with a more established band, in which theyll most likely make some decent money, doesnt mean they are only in it only for that. And anyone who points the finger is just a jealous asshole who wont get anywhere in their music career because getting that indie cred is too important to them, by doing such. Even if you were being put in a bad position by them taking the other show, you should be SUPPORTIVE of them and be happy for them they are moving forward. Thats what the music business is about. Help out your friends when you can as much as possible. But you should never have to sacrifice your success because your friends cant play a show with you. You want success? Then get off your ass and work for it. You should never RELY on anyone else to help you out. If you dont understand their position, then fuck you. Thats your fault, not theirs. Bands should help others out, but when it all comes down to it, its kill or be killed. If you seriously get pissed about that you need to get your head checked, because youre being a selfish ass and thinking of your own success ALONE. If you were in their place, you'd do it too, and you know it. Theres a fine line you have to walk with being supportive of your friends, and watching out for your own bands well being. And sometimes, there's no other choice, and you should understand that. So get off your damned high horse, and respect others decisions in their musical careers. Because it is THEIR decision and you have no part in it. You have no idea what their goals and plans are for their band so dont act like you do because you dont do the same.
Hey, maybe this was a cocky post. Do I care? No. I have a right. I have much more experience than you in the music industry.
So fuck all of you who think you know what youre talking about.
p.s. This post was based off a few peoples opinions, and some conversations I've had. So dont flatter yourself and think its about you.
