My First Day and Big 100.3 the big hits of the 60s and 70s
Not much to report. The boss is fabulous, the people seem really nice so far. I'll get to know them better tomorrow, there's a sales meeting in the morning and I'm sure there will be some sort of icebreaker. Today I spent most of the day learning how the whole WBIG operation runs. It's quite complex, let me tell you. I met with the Music Director, Program Director, Promotions Director and Assistant Director, Human Resources, (duh) Accounts Payable and countless sales managers from other stations. WBIG is owned by Clear Channel which also owns Hot 99.5 (contemporary hits), DC101 (rock), WMZQ (country) and Mix107.3 (you can figure that one out). And we all work on the same floor separated by nothing, so we all hang out and give each other leads that wouldn't work on our stations. It's a really great environment. And the fun thing is that it's nothing but cubicles so we don't have to get up to talk to one another, we can just scream. Today at about 5 someone wanted chocolate so she just yelled out and asked if anyone had any chocolate and then the girl who sits behind me chucked some mini candy bars over my head and onto her desk, it was quite amusing.
I don't have a computer yet, so I have to use the communal ones in the photocopy room. I thought it would be annoying, but it turns out that nobody uses the photocopiers so it's nice and quiet and the boss doesn't mind me checking my email every once in a while. It's a pretty young office, yes, even the oldies station has young sales associates, so they all go out quite often. So far this week I have lunch on Wednesday and Friday, office lunch on Thursday and happy hour Friday night, so I think it'll be a great time.
The job itself is fab. Turns out I am good at sales, whoduh guessed. So, I have some great leads and the boss is really impressed. All in all I'd say I had a great day, and I'm excited to go back tomorrow! And best of all, check the time. 11:34PM and I'm still awake! That's right, no more 4AM wake-up calls for me! Well, I'm off to spend my next half hour with the boy before bed, just wanted to give my monthly update :) Goodnight all!
