PRE-EUROPE. JUNE 6, 2010

Jun 25, 2010 02:04

Here's the official story of my Supergrass/Europe trip! For some of you non-LJ readers, I'm going to lock these in the near future so read these next handful of entries quick. Thank you.

The date is Tuesday, June 6, 2010.

Derek and I woke up at around 9am. We putz around my room, like snuggling and interneting etc. Finally, we went for breakfast at Gayley's. My mother said she'd come get us at 12:30pm. We left around 11am so I thought I'd have enough time to have breakfast, shower, then pack the last of my things (like toothbrush, stuff like that).

When we got back, my mom was waiting in my room. It was noon. The whole week leading up to this, I cleaned my room like nobody's business so she must've been pleased with that.
So, naturally, I was not able to shower and I scrambled to pack the last of my things. Luckily, I made my self a handy-dandy list and checking things off as I went. I was actually kind of surprised that she wasn't rushing me, I was moving so quickly that I didn't even notice that I didn't need to.

I said goodbye to housemates Sooz and Ryan. They both wished me a good time. I said goodbye to Lulu, trying not to cry. Sometimes she gives me this look, you know? I'd also been prepping her for the trip. She may not understand me, but my mom has always asked me if I've talked to Lulu before going on any adventures... so I just do it now.
Off we go.

Dave's actually coming back from Edmonton around the same time I have to check-in to my flight so we were all able to have a nice hot full-service meal while waiting for my flight. Derek and I shared a fish & chips, we weren't that hungry from breakfast. He eats fish again. It definitely makes me feel less cruel.

We finished eating and there's still like 45 mins before the gates open for my flight. We waited around for 20 more minutes until we all decided that maybe I should be earlier than what the ticket says. So off I go!

My mom, Derek, and Dave walk me to the gate. I'm taking airport baby steps here! I haven't been on a plane since I was 5! I hug everyone, I get emotional, I turned and waved and smiled about a million times while waiting in line.

All security stuff aside, I am now waiting by gate 29 I think. Thomson Cook airline. I've never heard of these guys before. I'm sitting around, wondering what everyone's story is: "That person's got an accent, so they're going back home. I hope they had a good time in Toronto."

Soon enough I'm getting on an effing plane. The flight attendants are all so nice and Scottish. Before take-off, I was able to text my mom and Derek for the last time... telling them I love them, of course. Then I had to turn my phone off. It wasn't going to work in Europe but I brought it anyway for the phone numbers.

At take-off I was getting so excited! I didn't remember what plane rides were like and I felt like everyone around me knew what it was like... they probably did too.
It was a really weird feeling leaving Toronto. I love love love Toronto, and I was going to miss it and it's people for the next 8 days but I was also so terribly excited for the trip ahead. I loved seeing the city underneath me.
Oh, the dude sitting beside was fucking getting in my space! Look dude, I payed an extra $20 to pick my seat, a window seat, I NEED TO ENJOY THIS. Should've thought about it when you booked your flight, betch.

One of the in-flight movies was "It's Complicated." You know that horrible movie about old people having sex and affairs and stuff? Yeah, that one. You know what I was thinking about the whole time too: How awful Alec Baldwin has aged. He was kinda cute in Beetlejuice, what happened??

The second in-flight movie was Sherlock Holmes. Jesus. I couldn't get through the first 10 minutes, it was so bad. I don't know what it was. Not clever or funny in any way. Robert Downy Jr.'s horrible accent..
I think I just tried to read or take a nap or something for the rest of the flight.

Oh AND.. I had no idea there was going to be food on this flight. Two courses. First dinner, and snacky things. Then a few hours later, more snacky desserty things like blueberry muffins. I didn't mind airplane food.. at all.

You know what was really cool too. On my side of the plane at night time, was actually night time. Dark.
On the other side, the sun looked like it was going down the whole time. It never went down. It was really cool.

I took a video of the plane landing in Glasgow. I quite like it.
It was 4:10 am Glasgow time.

I didn't have a plan for when I actually landed lol. I litterally was like "Oh, please let there be a hotel closeby. And please let them have rooms."
The weeks leading up to this trip, I said I'd stay in a hostel but I never got around to checking out right ones, or even checking out hotels.
Luckily, there's a Holiday Inn RIGHT BESIDE the Glasgow International Airport. I walked over and got a room.

It's midnight in Toronto, so I didn't think I'd be too much of a bother if I called my mom and Derek to tell them I've arrived safely. So I did! It was kinda cool; midnight in Toronto, sun almost up here in Glasgow.

I got a feel for the room. Watched a little TV, checked out the bathroom situation, and the internet situation. Actually, the reason I called my mom and Derek was because I didn't know how to connect to the internet to just send them a message for cheap. I can't remember who I called first, but my conversation with Derek turned into a technical help call. I got connected.
Then I called reception to ask if they had any outlet converters and they did not. EEK!

Then I slept until 11am, Glasgow time.
