Why I think more people should watch this show
#5; THE ACTION
What can I say? I like things that go 'boom' and 'splodey, I like people holding guns on TV, I like car chases and fight scenes... I'm a simple gal. This show gives me plenty of action to be gleeful about.
#4; THE EYE CANDY
Okay, so this one is essentially an excuse for gratuitious naked!Auggie shots... but erm, really. The show is full of pretty and sometimes the pretty even runs around naked. Yes, I'm shallow. The actors are all very good-looking people(*) and very well dressed and ooh, I like the pretty.
#3; THE CONCEPT
This is a spy show and a somewhat recurring theme is who to trust - there's a lot of intrigue, people are being used, it's their job to use people, in a way, but even within the agency, there isn't a whole lot of transparency and it makes the relationships between all the characters so much more interesting. There's some questions about what the greater good actually is, how dirty they all get and if what they do is actually good and right... And while I'm most definitely in it for the pretty and other shallow reasons, I love that this show has a whole level of depth that we may choose to ignore or play with to our heart's desire.
#2; THE POSSIBILITY FOR SHIPS
Honestly, everyone's got chemistry with everyone and there aren't many combinations of people for which I could not come up with a semi-believable scenario for shippy fic..
#1; THE CHARACTER PORTRAYAL
I'm going to quote adela-nightmoon here, because she said it better than I could:
The portrayal of people without judgement. Joan's worry when it comes to her husband's possible affairs doesn't make her into a harpy. Auggie's womanising doesn't make him into a slut. Jai's charm-school act doesn't make him into a smarmy freak. Arthur's 'i'm at the top of it all and so i have to do what's best' doesn't make him into a controlling arse.
The characters all have faults, problems, weaknesses, but I still find them likable and can relate to them. And despite all their weaknesses, they're all strong, fascinating characters. So yes, much love here.
So, in summary: I really like Covert Affairs a whole lot ♥
