Do The Right Thing
Spike Lee

Weaving together meandering shots that seem like vignettes of black life in New York, Spike Lee has managed to create a pretty engaging study of not just racism but personal ethics. The quotes at the end are a little heavy-handed but still manage to put forth a somewhat balanced viewpoint. A lovely film. 9/10

She's Gotta Have It
Spike Lee

Brilliant, hands-off portrait of a polyamorous woman through the eyes of her multiple partners. An incredible study of the social implications of sexual preferences without imputing the film with tedious personal morality. The cinematography might seem terribly dated but somehow, he makes it work. 8/10
