I was just going to bed and saw this story from Google News - story linkA 20 year old student at a Kentucky small baptist university was expelled this week because he wrote on his myspace profile that his sexuality was 'gay'! We still continue to fight for the right to not be fired/dismissed/etc. over our sexual preferences. To date there are a lot of businesses who are very unclear as to reserving the right to fire based on sexuality. Probably the more irritating part is that even if they say they won't, they still secretly will ( ... )

There's an old saying that goes - What is more dull than a discreet diary? One might as well have a discreet soul! On that basis I am very open and tend to shy away from journals that are only half a person.

As for the baptist University storey: It's a shame, however, I don't thing legislating against peoples opinions is the best way forward. For me I'd rather see people with such warped and indeed flawed views - countered with argument, debate and education. Most of the nonsense they spout can be rebuffed with scientific evidence alone.

When I hear stories like this I tend to track down the addresses of the people concerned (in this case the Uni Principal)and I write to them.

that is complete bullshit. he definitely has a lawsuit on his hands. I would sue the crap out of that school & get a scholarship to another one from them.

They shouldn't be allowed to expell (or dismiss) anyone based on what they find online.

But this is Kentucky we're talking about, and Kentucky SUCKS.

however... i AM glad it exists, for two people that i know (that i care less for the bird-pooh) have switched over to myspace... serves them right! hahaha ...and, thankfully got them AWAY from livejournal...
hooray for myspace!
