Damn sexy.
[Background]
Son of Sparda [Personality] Dante is, for all intents and purposes, a complete and utter bad ass. What else can you call a silver haired young punk who runs around wearing no shirt, a red leather jacket, solving most of his problems with a pair of pistols? He’s arrogant, rude, and completely impatient, plus he’s got an attitude the size of Kansas.
And yet, despite all of his flaws, Dante is a good person. Now how’s that possible, you ask? Because Dante does believe in justice, and protecting the weak, which means keeping innocent humans from getting snacked on by the nasty demons that have a tendency to sneak into the human world.
Let’s start at the beginning on this one. Dante is half human, half demon, the son of a legendary dark knight named Sparda, and a lovely human woman named Eve. Sparda died while Dante and his twin brother, Vergil, were still young though, leaving the boys alone with their mother. On his eighth birthday, Dante’s family was attacked by demons, and Dante watched his mother slaughtered and was left to think his twin was dead. So where did that leave Dante? Severely disliking his demonic side and embracing the things that made him human.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t use his powers though. Dante is strong, and he knows it. Actually, he flaunts it. He is completely chevalier about being SHOT IN THE HEAD, swallowed by giant air whale serpents, or impaled upon his own sword. He brushes off wounds that would kill a regular person in seconds and keeps going like it was a pin stick. These are the powers he uses to hunt demons. When we first meet Dante, he is opening up a business to do just that.
While watching him, it becomes apparent that Dante takes just about nothing seriously at all. When his office is attacked by a horde of monsters, he takes time to punch the buttons on the jukebox before dashing into combat. After everything is said and done, he simply kicks back and eats a slice of pizza, like NOTHING JUST HAPPENED. When agitated, Dante has a tendency to act immaturely, yelling about completely useless things, like telling demons they better have the money to cover the damage they did to his building. Dante seems to love the sound of his own voice, and gets annoyed quickly, especially with people who taunt him or talk more than he does. He’s awfully possessive at times, and very protective. If you somehow manage to penetrate his thick shell, he will be a loyal friend. He’ll be annoying as all hell, but he’ll take care of your ass in a tough situation.
He’s sarcastic and hotheaded, often rushing into situations even if he doesn’t have all the facts. He especially does this if he knows people are going to get hurt, but he’d never admit it even at gunpoint that he’s actually pretty protective of folks. He’s flashy in his fighting and loves to perform, which is evidenced by his weapon “Nevan” which is essentially a LITERAL electric guitar. The first time he gets it, he puts on a show. He’s completely dismissive of danger to himself, knowing it’s more than likely he’ll survive.
Thankfully, even with a skull as thick as Dante’s he has the capacity to learn, mature, and eventually take things seriously. A lot of his growth comes from watching Lady’s antics during the game, and her devotion to family. While Vergil turns out to be alive and well, Dante and he take a sort of sick pleasure in fighting/stabbing/maiming each other at any given moment. While Vergil craves power, Dante will take what he has to in order to get the job done, but he isn’t at all power hungry. Despite the disdain that Dante seems to have for Vergil, deep down he cares for his brother and will get pretty upset if anything happens to him. After watching Lady, it’s almost as if Dante develops even more brotherly care for Vergil, and tries to stop him from falling into the underworld at the end. He’s actually pretty upset when he fails. He sheds tears for his brother, which is why he names his shop “Devil May Cry.” Dante IS a devil that can cry. Mostly because he’s also part human. Keep in mind that no matter how much Dante may love kicking the crap out of Vergil, if anyone else does it, they are going to die. Seriously… don’t mess with Dante’s big brother.
As a young man, Dante does enjoy kicking back and relaxing. He loves his guns, pizza, music, and good looking girls. He hits on Lady when he meets her, but is less than impressed when she decides to put a bullet in his brain. He tries to kiss her at one point, but she pulls away, and with his short attention span he really doesn’t take it too personally. Dante’s completely obnoxious when you first meet him, and has a tendency to drive people crazy, but if you stick with him long enough, you’ll see he’s actually not so bad.
Dante is totally the typical rough and rude on the outside, protector of the innocent on the inside sort of guy. He refuses to kill full blooded humans, and cares far more for the human race than even some humans do. He admits at some point that some humans are worse than demons, but that doesn’t seem to stop him from taking jobs to help them out. Dante’s goodness was most likely instilled in him by his mother, and it is something that will continue to protect the unsuspecting people around him for many years to come. He has set up a lot of walls around his own heart, and he has trouble letting people in past all the jokes, arrogance, and swagger, but deep down inside, Dante does care.
[Specialties/Abilities] With demon blood running through him, Dante has far more resilience than a normal human being. He gets beaten, stabbed, shot, and crushed more times in a single day than any one person really should ever be. And yet he walks away from all of this looking just like a bed of roses. Okay, sometimes his hair is a bit messy, but if that’s the only problem, I say that’s pretty good.
He also has the ability to wield devil arms, things such as the Nevan, Agri and Rudra, and the Cerberus. These powerful weapons were all once guardian demons that Dante fought and took down all on his own. He MADE those weapons submit to him, which only proves how strong he is really capable of being.
Dante’s most impressive ability, however, has to be his Devil Trigger. Awakened when he is impaled upon his sword “Rebellion”, devil trigger lets Dante take on a demon form, deal far stronger hits, and recharge his own health. In this form he’s even more fast and durable than he is as a human, which is really saying something.
His ability to defy physics is astounding, whether it is with his weapons, jumping off buildings or riding enemies around like skateboards. Dante is one guy you really don’t want to mess with.
[Affection] Dante likes the ladies, and he'll probably more often than not get into one of their personal spaces. But on the flip side, he is actually not all that much for being touched himself. I'd say steer clear of anything too affectionate until you know this guy really well.
[Fighting] You are all more than welcome to try to take this guy down. He loves fighting. But he's a tough one, don't mess with Dante unless you REALLY have to. If you really want to fight him, go ahead and ping me!
[Other Permissions] Telepathic characters are going to have a tough time getting into Dante's head. I'd say if they try hard enough he'll crack, but he's probably got walls up against something like that.
As for fourth-walling, it's probably not likely to happen, but always ask me if it comes up. Dante would not appreciate being told he is a fictional game character.
[Other Facts] He says he hates olives, but he always gets them on his pizza anyways :\c
