Starting afresh.

The streets were bright and bustling;

the hubbub of the Fourth of July.

The plans for fireworks were nearing

to immortalize an eternal night.

She stumbled gently into the bar,

her best friend as her guide.

No part of her could fathom

she'd meet her partner for life.

The reunion between them was joyous,

two old friends uniting as one.

Then she noticed him noticing her,

she denied he could be The One.

Trails of laughter and discarded clothing

followed them deep into the night

touching, giggling, unusual trusting,

something just felt unmistakably right.

Togetherness came quickly,

all they learned their bodies and pasts.

They told each other stories,

stubbornly convinced it would never last.

But the more time needed minutes,

the more she needed him.

He became her every daydream,

she the muse of all his whims.

And now they lie together,

not exempt from human woe.

But as she thinks of his love,

it's true, and that's all she knows.
