AMY WON!!!

Her school has a Spelldown (spelling bee) every year. They go through each 4th and 5th grade class and have spelling bees in each one. The runner up and champion of each class is brought to the Spelldown of the year at the school. Today was my sister's school's Spelldown of 2007. There were 25 students, including her.

She and a 5th grader had a showdown at the end. Amy messed up on the word "propensity." I never even HEARD of the word. The other girl also messed up on the word too. In order to win the Spelldown, she has to spell her word (or the other girl's word) right, in addition to another word right. The other girl spelt "surprise" wrong, and Amy got it right. Amy then had to spell the word "purchase" to win, and of course she did. :D

She got a nice sized trophy, and her name is being put on a plaque outside of the principal's office. She is the FIRST FOURTH GRADER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL to win the Spelldown.

On Monday and Tuesday, March 5th and 6th, she is in the Asbury Park Spelldown at Monmouth University. There was a writer for APP at the Spelldown too so her name will be in the paper. If she places in the APP Showdown, she goes to the NATIONALS in Washington DC. Now, I know this is a far cry, but if she wins the Nationals, she gets $50,000.

I fucking love my sister.
