Essay #1 on Callie Torres

My favorite character in ShondaLand is Callie Torres. There are so many reasons why I like her the best. She's hot, awesome, a good orthopedic surgeon, gets shipped with lots of great characters, and probably the reason I got hooked and stayed a fan of Grey's Anatomy.

I never intended to start watching Grey's Anatomy. It was just something I had to do for a class one semester. It was season 3, when Callie became a regular. I had seen the show prior a tiny bit, and knew I did kind of like George just from that exposure. I was so excited that he and Callie were together. I also liked Callie because she was who I considered the hot chick on the show, but she didn't have the stereotypical personality. She was a strong character like how she wanted to date George so badly. But then even though she was beautiful, she was still insecure with herself, which is a real thing a lot of people go through. It made her relatable.

I think Callie also gets all the great friendships and relationships. She and Cristina are totally hilarious together. My favorite episode with their friendship was 7x08 when they went to the mall and Cristina had cut Callie's hair badly. I can't think of any scenes between them that I like better. I also like that Cristina is Sofia's godmother. Callie's other awesome friends were Addison, Bailey, and Mark. She was also lucky to get together with Mark and Arizona. Other characters she has had good scenes or moments with are Alex, Owen, Derek, and Meredith. The Callie and Addison friendship is the reason I wish Addison had stayed in Seattle and not gone to Los Angeles.

I am torn between Callie's relationships with Arizona and Mark. I guess I like them both because they were so different. With Arizona, it was sweet and hot, and they got married. But, with Mark, it was hot and sexy. While I was not happy with the breakup of Callie and Arizona, it didn't bother me that Callie got together with Mark because they were not together. Also, Sofia would not exist if they did not have sex, and I love that Sofia is Callie's daughter. The other thing I love about Callie's sexual relationships is that she usually gets to wear really hot lingerie. She has so many lovely bras and she looks great in all of it.

Finally, I love all the moments where Callie gets to be badass. Whether it is rocking it out in a OR or at her home in bed, it's all wonderful. The scene that really made me fall in love with her was from season 3 where she's living in the hospital basement and is dancing around in sunglasses and her underwear. The chief caught her and it was funny. Add that to everything else and she is totally awesome.

I like your reasons for liking Callie, particular the description of when she first entered the show and was the way she was with George. (He was a douche to her!) I liked that she didn't portray the sterotypical female - It was refresing. While I can't agree to the whole Callie/Mark thing because it was never an IN LOVE relationship so for me there's no way it can compare to Arizona/Callie - Without the sex and hurt - I think Callie and Mark's friendship was something that a lot of people would like to have.
