They had an Italian full course dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. Fortunately they both were similar in fondness of food. If Nino was there, he’d probably give up the whole idea of dinner and already back to his room playing DS.
Sho and Jun enjoyed the delicious dinner, talking and laughing as usual, but the meaningful glances and affectionate touches were obvious for everybody to see. Maybe they would stop doing the obvious in public once they were back in Tokyo, but now they just didn’t care. Sho would reach out for Jun’s hand across the table and held it, and Jun would look at Sho lovingly every time Sho said or did something funny, and Sho would ask Jun again and again if he needed anything, food, wine, water, fork, spoon, anything, and he’d go fetch them for him, the thing that usually Jun would do. Sho was more than willing to spoil Jun. And at the moment, the world was theirs, nothing and no one could distract them from each other.
It was already very late when they were finished, and both began to feel the exhaustion from 12-hours flight they had earlier. Jun was half sleeping when they reached their rooms, and a little bit drunk too. Sho was quite sober, but tired also. He managed to take Jun to his room, and the later immediately sank into the bed, saying he’d wake up later to take a shower. Sho tucked Jun into the bed and kissed him goodnight. Jun was already sleeping.
Goodnight, my love.
Sho went to his own room and took a shower, and he was thinking, a lot. He realized of how much he had taken for granted that Jun loved him. He once felt uncertain too, when they were so distant. He thought Jun would never think about him the way he did before, when they were young. But that night, on Jun’s 26th birthday, they talked and Sho knew it was still there.
And Sho thought he always loved Jun, since they were much younger, but he was wrong. To say that he always felt the same way about Jun would be over-simplifying. Because, before it was affection, but what had been going on for five or six years now was definitely more than that, Sho really fell in love with Jun. He wanted him, as a lover, and a partner in life, not as a brother or co-worker like before.
And yet he never confessed to Jun until now. He felt ashamed to himself. After they got close again, he thought it wasn’t important, because Jun already knew anyway. And lately Sho had been giving hints to the media of how Jun was his type and all, but he forgot the most important thing, Jun needed to hear that directly from him, not some ambiguous hints. Jun had been waiting for more than a decade for those words but he only said it today.
Sho hurt Jun years ago, and when Jun tried hard to be as normal as possible with him, he only hurt Jun even more by keeping distance. And that distance drifted them apart more than he wanted.
It was also around the time when Arashi was declining, and laughed at by the juniors. But then Jun worked so hard and shut them all up. Everybody knew that HYD drama was only a back-up project for Yamapi and Kame’s Nobuta sequel, and everybody predicted it would fail. But Jun miraculously made it work, and he made Arashi’s songs as the theme songs. It was true that Arashi’s popularity today was because all of the members’ hard work, but no one could deny HYD was the most successful campaign for Arashi. And Jun was so humble and pure, he honestly would never think that it was all because of his work.
Sho felt something warm flowing down from his eyes, and it wasn’t the shower. He did everything for us, for me, when all I ever did was hurting him. And now I’m rushing him, shame on me.
Sho fell asleep after shower, only to wake up hours later with puffy eyes from lack of sleep and tears. He couldn’t go back to sleep, and couldn’t stop thinking about Jun. Sho put on his jeans and went outside to the corridor. It was still dark. He stared at Jun’s door, and thought of ringing the bell but stopped short. He turned around and decided to go to the bar instead.
The bar was open 24 hours, luckily. Sho could see a couple at the counter and..., his heart beat faster. He approached a sofa at the corner.
Jun.
Jun was sipping his drink, looking refreshed but preoccupied. He didn’t see Sho was coming. Sho held him from behind.
Sho?
Jun turned around and Sho kissed him, again ignoring the couple’s and the bartender’s eyes on them. They melted into each other’s warmth and softness, once again. The kiss was a little bit dreamily, but ensuring, and natural. It felt so right.
I love you
I love you too.
Sho pulled away after a while, “Jun, baby… what are you doing here?” he asked, looking concerned. He sat down on a chair facing Jun.
“Nothing, I woke up, took a shower and couldn’t go back to sleep, have you slept?”
“Yeah, I slept like a baby”, Sho lied “Are you okay? You looked troubled”
Jun laughed.
Troubled? today’s probably the happiest day of my life.
“Nah, I was just thinking”, he said instead.
I know, so many things happened today.
“Thank you for planning this trip”, Sho smiled, holding Jun’s hand in his. Jun only smiled.
I wonder what would happen to us when we’re back in Tokyo.
You’re worried about us aren’t you? about where do we go from here.
Sho wanted to say something, he argued whether or not to say it, but he just had to.
“Jun, listen, I don’t want to rush you or anything, but I just have to tell you this” Sho took a deep breath, he looked into Jun’s eyes and said, “I love you, I will always do, you are very important to me” he paused, and then continued “and when the time comes, I will ask you to marry me….”
Jun rolled his eyes. Are you serious?
I am dead serious.
Sho really meant it, he said at interviews he would get married when he was 38 or something, because somehow he thought at that age, no one would see them as idols anymore, and maybe, just maybe, they could live a normal life, and be together, in marriage.
“So, uhm….what do you think?”, Sho suddenly blushed of his own question.
“Well, we’ll see then, when the time comes”, Jun grinned, he was too happy to hear that, and embarrassed too.
“Are you saying that because you’re going to MC-ing Prince William’s wedding?” Jun teased.
"Of course not, you silly, I don't know why Nittele wants me to host it", Sho said
"They want your pretty face, besides, you're also a prince, for some fangirls, at least"
And my Prince Charming also.
Sho shrugged, "I'll try to do my best of course, but really, I don't know how to comment on those.....royal wedding things"
"You'll be okay Sho, you'll see", Jun's eyes were just like the young Sho-worshipper Jun.
Suddenly Jun’s cell phone showed signs of an incoming email. He checked it, and made “what the f**k?” face and showed it to Sho. Sho read it.
From: Ninomiya Kazunari
To: Matsumoto Jun
Jun-kun, please tell Sho-chan not to forget to buy me some souvenirs will you?
Nino
“Ha? How did he know? did you tell anyone?” Sho asked, he only said he’d be away for 3 days to his manager.
“No, I only mailed my manager, and disappeared”, said Jun.
“Give me that”, Sho said as he borrowed Jun’s phone and pressed the “reply” button.

To: Ninomiya Kazunari
Nino, I’ll get as much as you want, now stop being bratty and leave us alone!
Sho.
“There”, Sho grinned, let it be known. But Nino knows everything after all. He gave the phone back to Jun.
Now Sho’s phone rang.

To: Sakurai Sho
Sho chan, tell Jun-kun to stop acting like a virgin and sleep with you already.

Sho read and blushed.
“What is it?” Jun asked.
“No, nothing, just another Nino’s mischievous, good-for-nothing mail”
Jun’s phone rang once again.
From: Ninomiya Kazunari
To: Matsumoto Jun
Jun-kun, have Sho-chan proposed already? If he had, I should say, happy honeymoon, and sorry for interrupting…
Nino
PS: We’re not expecting you guys to come back for at least a month, have fun :P
Jun felt his face reddened.
“What did he say?” Sho asked
“Nothing, jeez, Nino scares me sometimes”
“Nino always scares me”, Sho sighed “He must have the sixth sense or something”
“What time is it now in Tokyo?” asked Jun
Sho glanced to his wristwatch “It must be around 10 am there”
“Shouldn’t Nino be busy promoting his Gantz movie or something?”
Sho chuckled, “Leave it to Nino when it comes to us, he’ll always find the time and right occasions to say something suspicious about us”
“True”, Jun agreed. Not that he complained though, he somehow enjoyed it.
And the truth was, Sho wanted it to be known, not only by the rest of Arashi members, but also to the fans. And he’d been giving many hints through the media for the past year. Let it be known, he felt like he wanted to scream “Jun is mine”. Yes, he was possessive, but he couldn’t help it. It was torturing enough seeing Jun in and out of relationships with girls before. And Sho himself had a relationship or two, but none serious, and many were only gossips. Well, they say first love never dies.
Jun yawned, and Sho felt now he could use some more sleep too.
“Let’s go back to sleep, we have so many places to go and see tomorrow”, Sho took Jun’s hand and got up from the chair, followed by Jun.
“You’re right, let’s go”
They reached their rooms, hand in hand, eyes met.
