Are friends supposed to scavenge through your bag, look into your notebook and ruin your privacy? He answers in his mind with a big, fat NO. But how very lucky of him to have such friends who do that. And if you don't get the sarcasm, you're probably one of those kinds of friends.
He uses all of his willpower not to smack the five heads in front of him. Remain calm, he mentally repeats to himself over and over. He lets himself get caught up in his meditation. He doesn't want to hear anything from his friends right now. He needs to stay calm or the whole school just might see him explode inside the cafeteria and what a buzz that would be. Again and again, the phrase repeats in his mind. He is now schooling a passive expression on his face. He opens his eyes to be greeted by five other pairs. His eye twitches.
"You like Junhyung."
Seungri just had to open his big mouth. He can feel that his body will go into spasms any second now. And it does, but not his whole body. He can see Jiyong trying hard not to laugh. Of course, failing miserably. When Jiyong laughs, soon everyone else does. He doesn't see what's so funny when he's about to go into cardiac arrest. He mentally notes to kill them all while they sleep later in the evening. Curse his life. First he gets a stalker-ish courter who turns out to be sweet and nice but still irritating at the same time. Then he gets these mixed emotions about said courter. And finally, his dear beloved friends decide that it'll be the gossip of the century when they found out while he was buying food.
He will definitely have padlocks for his bag in the future. That way nosy people won't be able to look into his things. And he will definitely keep the key with him at all times. He grabs his notebook from the clutches of Seunghyun and proceeds to hug it to death, glaring at the perpetrators.
"Who said you can scour through my bag and look at my notebook?"
"We're your friends. We're supposed to do that." Jiyong answers him with a shrug and an amused smile. His hands clench tightly around his notebook. Youngbae decides to intervene at that moment, knowing he's just about to explode when pushed right.
"We're concerned about you Hyun."
"And that gives you guys the right to invade my privacy, how?"
"Oh come on Hyun. It's the only way we'll know anything. You're not exactly the type of person to talk about what's troubling him or what's happening in your life." Jiyong waves his hands dismissively.
"We're here to help you with anything, hyung." Daesung smiles at him and he's fascinated again at how small the other's eyes are, disappearing like that with just a small smile.
"I don't need any help. I'm perfectly fine." He huffs, looking to the side. He's stubborn. He knows. How many times has Junhyung told him that? It's engraved in his brain along with Junhyung's face when he teases him about it. The smirk and everything about Junhyung. A snap at his face brings him back to his current predicament. He looks at the offender who happens to be Seunghyun.
"You definitely look far from fine. You look troubled."
"At least that much we can tell, Hyun." Youngbae adds in. He resists the urge to pout at them. It's not exactly his fault that he's hard to understand. Okay so maybe it is...partly. He just wants to find someone who would take the time to understand him and put up with him and his antics. To which, Junhyung has accomplished both. His heart flutters at the thought.
"And you're in your dreamland again. Nice hyung." Seungri comments and he proceeds to smack the other's head. "So tell us who you're thinking of? Junhyung I bet."
"He's your hyung. Respect him."
"Since you didn't deny it, you were thinking of Junhyung...hyung." Seungri adds as he shoots him a glare.
"I was about to deny it."
"Sorry hyung 5-second rule!"
"What the hell? That's for food!"
"Nuh-uh." He stares blankly at Seungri while the others laugh. He shakes his head.
"I don't know how you got to high school with that kind of thinking."
Before things could escalate, he sees Junhyung pass by. His gaze follows the retreating figure. He doesn't mind the five pairs of eyes looking at him, observing his actions. He vaguely wonders if he should follow after the other. At the back of his mind, he wants to confront Junhyung about earlier, wants to ask if the other is really mad at him, wants to ask about the gift and the letter. He wants to ask if Junhyung still likes him or if the other has given up.
But as he is about to stand up, he stops himself. No, his friends were not about to stop him. They look more than happy to shove him into Junhyung and watch sadistically how everything goes. God knows how he got friends like these. No wonder he's as anti-social as he can be. You'll have a great fear of having more friends like them. But they're precious to him so he's living with it. As much as he would hate to admit it in front of them, he loves them dearly. As friends.
Junhyung, on the other hand, he doesn't know what he feels for the guy. He shifts in his seat as he places his chin on his palm. Now there's the question again. What's the answer to that? He only has one. No, not love. A far cry from it, he believes so. But no, not hate. He never once hated Junhyung, no matter how annoying the other can be. He just has mixed feelings. He's irritated by him but at the same time he's comfortable with him in a different sense from his friends. He knows what's different with Junhyung. But he just couldn't quite grasp it firmly with his hands. It's as if you're trying to hold a clump of sand. Some of it just passes straight through your fingers. As if, there's still more to it than you know.
He turns his head to look at his friends. When he does, they all look back at him from their conversation. He regards them with a small smile, intending to mean that he appreciates their concern but will face his problems on his own and in his own way. He feels a little sad that they misinterpreted it. Is Junhyung really the only one who understands his actions without him explaining it?
"Hyung, you should really talk to Junhyung-hyung." Daesung tells him. "Wow. It sounds weird to say 'hyung' twice."
He doesn't want to talk to Junhyung. Maybe not yet. He still has to make his feelings clear to him before that. If he doesn't, things just might end up awry. He'll lose a very special person. No, not in the love kind of way. Probably in a mind-reader kind of way. He hears Daesung and Seungri talk about the "Junhyung-hyung" weirdness.
"Hyun-" Youngbae begins to speak but he shakes his head.
"I'll do this on my own, hyung. And I'll do it the way I want to do it. But, thank you for all your concern." He smiles, trying to reassure them.
"We're always here for you." Jiyong ruffles his hair before tormenting the two young ones along with Seunghyun who just smiles back at him. Youngbae reluctantly lets the topic go but not before throwing him one last worried glance. He chuckles inwardly. Trust Youngbae to worry over you like that.
Before he could finally claim peace, his head is arm-locked by Jiyong. He exclaims, "What the hell?", and tries to pry the offending arm off him but Jiyong remains his steady hold. He has to admit, even if Jiyong looks scrawny, he's strong. The same goes for him and Junhyung can prove that.
"You didn't think we'll let you off the hook that easily, did you?"
"I was hoping you would." He says in a dead-pan voice.
"Oh come on. I wouldn't pass up the chance to tease you! Especially now that it involves someone! And it's your courter-whatever you call it-him! Bah!" He pictures Jiyong grinning. Oh joy. I'm confused with my feelings and they torment me about it. What helpful friends he has. That was sarcastic, if you don't mind.
"And I'm not one to sit by while you attempt to do that." He frees himself off Jiyong and quickly takes his things and dashes out of the cafeteria.
"You can run but there will always be a next time, Hyunnie~" Jiyong laughs maniacally. He couldn't help but laugh at Jiyong's antics as he skids to a halt in the hallway. Trust Jiyong to make him laugh when he was just about to self-implode with all his thinking. He'll have to avoid his friends for awhile if he didn't want to become a pile of incoherent words. Good thing today's a Friday. He can lock himself up in his room all weekend. And by Monday morning, he'll just have to get to his classroom before he even sees a strand of hair from any of the five. Because when there's one, there's bound to be another or all four others.
He begins to walk again, thinking of how to spend his weekend at home when he bumps into someone. He looks up. No, it's not Junhyung. And no, he wasn't hoping it would be Junhyung so don't get any ideas. It's Doojoon.
"Doojoon!" He smiles broadly. The other is startled at first but quickly smiles back.
"Hey Hyunseung. What's up?"
"Oh nothing much. Sorry I haven't been hanging around with you guys lately. A lot has been happening, I don't know what to make of it." Doojoon raises an eyebrow at him.
"You do know you just contradicted yourself right? Nothing much? Then a lot has been happening? Really. What's going on?"
He sighs. You just can't get past Doojoon, not when he's looking at you like that. "A guy's courting me and he's different from everyone else."
"Different how?" He can practically feel Doojoon's curiosity. He understands. It's not always that he says someone is different. In fact, he says it quite rarely.
"He's a stalker. He knows a lot about me. Heck, I can even honestly say that he might actually know everything about me!" He shakes his head. "But he's nice too. And really cheesy."
"Guess he left quite an impression on you." Doojoon snickers at his distress.
"He did. He's the first and only person who actually understands me." When Doojoon is about to say something, he quickly adds, "Without me explaining. He doesn't need any words to know how I feel or what I'm thinking or what he should do."
"That's one amazing person, if you ask me. He's done the impossible." Doojoon snickers.
"Hey! I resent that." He puffs his cheeks.
"But it's still the truth." And then Doojoon's face lights up as something probably crosses his mind. "Are you free tomorrow?"
"Uhm...yeah. Why?"
"Yoseob, Kikwang and I are going to the mall to find a gift from me to my sister. She just got engaged and I thought I'd congratulate her with a little something."
"She did?! That's great! I'll help! I'll definitely come." He smiles brightly. Doojoon's sister has always been kind to them all these years, always making them snacks when she's at home and they're over at Doojoon's house. She's fun to talk to too.
"We finally get to hang out with you again." Doojoon teases.
"Thanks for the guilt-trip Doojoon. Thanks a lot." He purses his lips.
"I'm just joking and you know it. But I'm glad we'll get together again. By the way, a friend will be coming with us."
"Really? Who?" He's quite curious. Is it Wooyoung? Or maybe Jokwon? Doojoon has a variety of friends. As well as Yoseob and Kikwang.
"Oh make that two." Doojoon grins.
"Are you not gonna tell me?" He raises an eyebrow.
"I'll make it a surprise. You could say it's punishment for not contacting us for a long time." Doojoon grins.
"2 weeks isn't that long, Doojoon." He rolls his eyes inwardly.
"But more than enough to have a lot happening." Doojoon shrugs and he couldn't agree more. It's only been a few days and a lot has happened with Junhyung.
"Fine. But I'm not going to guarantee I'll get along with them."
"You will. We know which people you get along with and I'm 100% positive that they're a check with you."
"I'm not sure I trust you." Doojoon gives him an incredulous look.
"After all these years of friendship, you still have no faith in me?"
"No." He grins. He knows Doojoon is just going along with him. Of course he trusts them. Besides Jiyong and the others, Doojoon, Yoseob and Kikwang are his closest friends. They go way back when they were still kids. As much as both groups of friends were with him since childhood, they never did hang around as one group a lot. Although, of course, they're all friends. They're probably just used to being separate groups.
"Don't worry. You already know one of them." Doojoon grins back at him. He raises an eyebrow.
"Who? Taecyeon? Or maybe Kikwang's crush Hyosung?"
"No and no. By the way, Kikwang isn't pursuing Hyosung anymore." His other eyebrow raises.
"What? Seriously? But he's been going on and on about her last time."
"Hyosung said they should just stay friends. But they sometimes joke around about liking each other. I told you a lot has happened in the past 2 weeks."
"I know. I know. I really need to catch up with you guys." He suddenly remembers something. "And I'll have to kill Yoseob for giving away my number to that stalker."
Doojoon laughs at him. "You know you won't really do that."
"I know. But I can scare him enough as revenge. Seriously though, who is it?" He looks curiously at Doojoon.
"You'll have to find out tomorrow." Doojoon wags a finger at his face. He looks crossly at the finger and its owner.
"Yeah. I know. Punishment." He frowns. And at that time, the bell rings, signaling the start of the afternoon classes. He smiles at Doojoon. "See you tomorrow."
"See you!" Doojoon waves at him while walking away.
Students are filling in the hallway and he quickly makes it to his classroom before Jiyong gets a hold of him and gives him some last minute teasing. He sits down on his chair and sighs, dropping his bag to the ground. He smiles inwardly. He's happy to see Doojoon and excited to hang out with the guys tomorrow. At that thought though he feels uncertain. There are two people who will be with them. One of the two is someone he knows. Doojoon's all secret about it so it wouldn't be the ones he would immediately think of. Who could it be?
Doojoon did say he will get along with them. That assures him to some level. But not entirely. He has to make sure personally if it's really true. He starts listing out possible people when his classmates start entering the room. One in particular catches his eye. Junhyung. And all thoughts of tomorrow fly away, replaced with more troubled thoughts of the guy looking straight at him with an intense gaze that he knows is trying to tell him something but he couldn't quite understand what. Junhyung walks past him and he lets out the breath he has been holding. The classes go by with him listening in intervals, sometimes he would take down notes and listen to the teacher and sometimes he would wonder about Junhyung and his feelings. There is this one question that keeps coming back in his mind.
Why does Junhyung like him?
