Damien Rice is perfect for long trips along the countryside. He makes you feel that even the trees have their own sad stories to tell, that the cows are dreading the day of slaughter, and that the farmers are lost in their own little worlds of sowing and reaping.
On the expressway that signaled we're back in the concrete jungle, I watched the vehicles on the opposite lane. Listening to Death Cab for Cutie, the moving metal boxes seemed to progress forth with a solid purpose. I changed the music to Tool and the cars, buses, and trucks morphed into speed demons racing towards the black void.
It's amazing how music can alter the world. Or one's perception of the world. Either way, it makes life's journey one hell of an interesting experience. You speed up, you slow down, you cruise, and come full stop. Then, before you know it, another song has begun, and you're seeing the world in an entirely different note.
