The rule was, read two, buy one. Not read one, buy two.

I haven't even finished consuming all the books on our shelf and now we have a little over a dozen new additions. Somebody cuff me! (Not the kinky kind, alright? But the real restraining kind.) See, the hubby and I are suffering from this book-buying frenzy that's rendered us almost poverty-stricken. A frenzy that starshuffler would say is borderline clinical (paging
zarahjutz, sakit na yan!). Damn National Bookstore for having this one-month long sale! (Can you believe that they're selling Gabriel Garcia Marquez titles for around P200?! It's a steal!)

But what can we do if we adore books so much? I guess no amount of restraint can stop us. Sigh. But thinking of the books we bought is enough to inspire me to work more, earn more, and purchase more books! Haha, what an insane motivation.

Anyhoo, here are the latest additions to our library (I'm too lazy to take a picture and upload. All my friends know that I always have excuses for not doing the latter. :p):

The Dark Night Returns - Frank Miller
The Black House - Stephen King and Peter Sraub
Lost Boy Lost Girl - Peter Straub
The Time of the Ghost - Diana Wynne Jones
Heart-Shaped Box - Joe Hill
The Ladies of Grace Adieu - Susanna Clarke
Mr. Muo's Traveling Couch - Dai Sijie
Contact - Carl Sagan
The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana - Umberto Eco
Chronicle of a Death Foretold - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Strange Pilgrims - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Algebraist - Iain Banks
The Little Endless Storybook - Jill Thompson

And there's this book that I've been salivating over but no longer have enough money to buy: Mathematicians in Love by Rudy Rucker. C'mon, show me you're a good friend. Wahaha. ;)

On a related note, I've finished seven books this August. I can't believe I've read that much in a month, considering the hours I put in at work and the measly hours I spend at home to read. Yes, it's quite an achievement for me. And with this lovely distraction the discomforting symptoms of MVP are put at bay.

I read two classics: Around the World in Eighty Days and The War of the Worlds. Those 19th century books are fine! :) Then I had my first helping of Diana Wynne Jones (The Time of the Ghost). I wanted to get Howl's Moving Castle but it's not on sale (though it's not that expensive anyway, so maybe I'll reward myself before the year ends). TIP: Fully Booked at The Block is the place to go if you're a DWJ fan.

Okay, so I guess this post ends here. Time for lunch! And for another book!
