Hello kind yuletide writer! This is really long and largely a rehash of my sign up (but with more links, probably, and possible updates for Pitch). I'm also on
tumblr and
imzy! If none of the nonsense below is helpful to you, just forge your own path. I believe in you, friend!
Generally I don't care for: death, pining that doesn't get resolved, polyamory, infidelity, bdsm, rape, torture and abuse, a/b/o, second person pov, mundane AUs.
I like: PINING (that gets resolved), weirdos pining weirdly, people being terrible about talking about feelings, werewolves, outsider POV, amnesia, shenanigans, people being dorks, domesticity, porn, teams, family/chosen family, awkwardness, stories with puppies or babies in them, coming out/meeting the family stories, obliviousness, roadtrips, bodyswap, genderswap, cuddling, punching out feelings if it fits the canon, characters taking care of each other. I've got a major equality/partners kink, too.
The Americans (Mischa)- THIS. SHOW. I have been so into it since the beginning but up until now I never felt the need for fic because it is so well done and I couldn't even imagine where you find an in. Or the ins I can imagine stress me out too bad. (This show!) But oh my god, when Mischa showed up in the last episode of the season I went "ooooooh."
I'm really looking forward to seeing how his dad finding adventures play out next season! I'm sure the show will take it in the most suspenseful way possible, and if you want to stick close to the tone of the show: go for it (try not to kill him or any Jenningses/Stan?). Or if you want to take a bit of a breather and go for less high stakes hijinks, that's A-OK.
My prompts or ideas for this are very ????? like, how does he take "here are Canadian, German and USSR passports, some Canadian cash and your dad is a travel agent in America" and get to DC? If he does follow his dad home from work to his lovely house in the suburbs what does he think of his half siblings and their whole lives in the US? Or does he even manage to successfully trail Philip home without getting busted?
Attack the Block (Moses, Sam) - I ship it. I feel bad for shipping it since he's 15, but I still ship it. I nearly clawed my face off when he gave her ring back, because in so many other movies that's right where there'd be a kiss. If you don't ship it that's fine though, because mostly I'm into them being weirdly codependent after everything that's happened and trying to pretend it's totally normal.
Obviously I had a (very normal) TON of feelings about Moses while watching this, the "Everywhere you go, bad things happen. Stay away from us" line K I L L E D me. Sure he mugs people but he wouldn't have mugged Sam if he knew she was from his estate, and the aliens aren't actually his fault!!
I'm a sucker for that thing where people who knew characters before the thing react to the way characters have changed after the thing (if this has a name, idk what it is). So what do Sam's coworkers think when she finally gets back to work? Do Moses's teachers notice a difference once he's out of jail? Does his uncle ever come back?
Or set it a few years down the line when it's a little less weird for one of them to make a move after years of dancing around each other.
The Hoopers - (Chris Paul Hooper, State Farm Neighbor) This is easily one of the weirdest things I've ever asked for, but I have seen these commercials so many times and at some point I was just like "I ship it" (I laid out
a small primer here, if you aren't one of the two people I conned into being into this with me on twitter).
Neighbor guy always being around and standing so close to Chris Paul! Honestly at some point I had to look up how tall CP3 was because Neighbor guy is a little taller than him, despite not being the one who plays basketball professionally. Infidelity is usually one of my DNWs but I am ok with it being a plot device here, both because it's kind of necessary and also because well, it's The Hoopers.
Though these commercials make lots of NBA adjacent jokes, basketball context isn't really a high priority here (though NBA related drama is great for jokes. I mean, the banana boat is a real thing that happened in real life.) If you think Neighbor guy needs friends and they're other insurance commercial types: go for it. Does he have the State Farm Jingle powers? (can those be used sexily? am I never going to be able to watch a State Farm commercial ever again??)
The Pacific (Eugene Sledge, Merriell "Snafu" Shelton) - I only got into this last month and I think I've read basically everything that can be found that pairs these two. At what point did Snafu realize "aw shit, this guy matters"? I'm really into the usual non-standard intimacy that seems to come up between the men that served together, and how that could confuse things. The ending of the show leaves so many things open and so much room to play.
I love the pet sociopath vibe that works here. Snafu may not be interested in doing the morally right thing just because it's right, but he'll do it because he knows it'll make Sledge happy. And that might work for Sledge as a means to an end, but could also be worrying at first - because he's not that good of a person even if Snafu thinks so - or just exasperating. Or Snafu courting Sledge in a way that no one else recognizes as such.
Jealousy would hit a lot of buttons. I don't necessarily need a happy ending here but I would like at least a hopeful one. I'm not huge into AUs that take them out of their time/situation, but if you want to do canon divergence, meet the family, time wimey stuff, body swap, amnesia, accidental telepathy, go for it.
Pitch (Ginny Baker, Mike Lawson)- So I saw the trailer for this a few months ago and kind of lost my shit. I've been a huge baseball fan my whole life and this is just so exciting to see. I also started going "sooo Ginny and the catcher" based on the trailer and then later realized that the catcher was Zack Morris looking weirdly good in that beard. And I love Ginny and Blip and Evelyn all being tight, I hope we see more of Ginny's family.
Only one episode has aired as I start writing this, but if something sparks an idea in episode two or three I'll come back. But basically I'm into Mike pining/being in denial about his feelings as he sleeps with tons of people not her etc, or them buddy banging before acknowledging feelings and having to deal with the media on top of that. Or all this stuff I've rambled with Mardia about
here. (oh my god they made the Drake thing happen, kinda. I'm dying)
Episodes two and three have just layered on even more things I love ("trust me, rookie", him being a creaky old catcher trying to keep up with her working out, them being out at a club etc etc). I LOVED seeing her ex and how that went down and the why she'd be so hesitant to be in a relationship with another player, after the shit she got.
Tropes I love that could be fun to play with here: one of them stuck in a groundhog day loop, "platonic" bed sharing, roadtrip without the rest of the team, an accidental telepathic bond that takes a while to notice, etc.
Minor note: I'm a huge (HUGE) San Francisco Giants fan, so feel free to take as many pot shots at the Dodgers as you like. (Also if anyone who isn't writing for me happens to see this letter and wants help on baseball stuff, hit me up! I have so many NL West opinions and have dashed off a few sentences of [baseball here] for friends in the past.
Rocky Movies (Adonis Johnson | Adonis Creed, Bianca, Mary Anne Creed, Rocky Balboa) - I love this movie so much, all the relationships between the characters hit different buttons for me (the family's of choice one is getting hammered) and I really would love any combination of these characters, before, during or after the movie.
Like, do Mary Anne and Rocky ever talk?? Is that the most awkward family dinner with Donny and Bianca trying to sustain conversations? What about Mary Anne and Donny when he was a kid? What was any of that like?
And god, my favorite line of the movie is probably "why didn't you tell me your uncle was Rocky Balboa?" that's probably a little weird for Bianca. What's her history with the local legend? When she and Donny are not talking does she stay in contact with Rocky? I also loved the fact that she and Donny both shared the fact that their passions were hurting their bodies but going for them anyway, how does that play out in the future?
And god, just, diving into Rocky's feelings about being basically adopted by Apollo's kid. (families of choiiiice) How public was the news of his illness (did his son like, ever know?? that only recently struck me as weird, though obviously not central to the story being told).
I don't really watch the boxing 24/7s on HBO, but if you wanted to play with what that would have looked like for the match I'd love it. (Outside POV!!)
But seriously, have fun! I look forward to seeing what you've got for me come the 25th!
