Decisions, Decisions

Oh man, so, I'm looking for housing and I went to see one of the places just now AND I LOVE IT.

It's a house, like an actual real house! It's owned by a grad student who is moving to live with her boyfriend. A 25-year-old undergrad currently lives there now. She has a little Daschund who is adorable. So yeah, I would be paying $650 a month to share an entire house, all utilities included. That's kind of amazing, considering I pay $450 a month now with no utilities included (the last electricity bill was $300) to live in a shitty apartment so that price is awesome. The house is nicely set up, there's a large living room and a big kitchen, a screened in porch, and a bathroom on the first floor that would be mine. Then you go upstairs and there is a master bedroom with bathroom attached that the girl uses. Then there are two smaller rooms that would be mine. One would probably just fit my bed and a nightstand. The other one can hold my dresser and probably futon and stuff if I want to bring that upstairs. And it has a backyard! It's only 5 minutes further away from campus than where I am now (as opposed to 45 or an hour like other place on my list) PLUS it's literally right down the street from my local yarn store1 (which does not factor into this decision at all, I swear...) So all in all, I love it.

Here's my dilemma: the little dog goes in and out of the house through a doggy door. This means that Calypso could get out of the house. Calypso is not an outside cat. This concerns me. She's not declawed, so she could defend herself in a kitty fight theoretically... and the yard is completely fenced in. The dog got out once and after that they filled in all the spots that it could possibly escape from, and honestly it's smaller than Calypso, so I don't think under-the-fence would be an issue. I'm also not too concerned with Calypso trying to climb up an over the fence since she doesn't even jump up on the table or counters... the only way she'd get over the fence is if we left a stepladder leaning against it. She usually hangs out near me, so I'm assuming that if I'm not outside she won't have much interest in being outside. Plus at night I'll probably keep her in my room. So really it's just what she'll get up to when I'm gone during the day, assuming she even realizes how to work the doggie door. Anybody with cats know whether I should be worried or not? Should I go for it? I really really want to, I would just feel terrible if something happened to Claypso.
