your opinion, please
now, here's my question for the masses. here is the opening to a story i started late one night on an excess of sugar and probably caffeine. it's mostly finished; my question is, is it worth completing? or is it too, um, dumb?
There was never much to do between layout and dispatch except wait. This was something Pierre was exceptionally good at: waiting. He enjoyed it. Except for the moment all the carefully laid lines converged and he could see the plan, complete and beautiful, in one bright, breathless instant, the waiting was his favorite part.
This was the time he allowed himself to revisit his past successes. Every perfect moment was lovingly admired and fondly praised. He combed the details, marveling over the minute particulars, the craft of the master schema. Each design was stroked and polished, each stratagem savored, each connivance venerated. Pierre was an artiste.
Surely there was nothing better in the world than this, the beauty of subterfuge, the allure of artifice. Maneuvering the lines of destiny toward that tiniest of moments when the Three met in an exquisite arrangement: Pierre, the Duck, and the Gun. Pierre---Pierre was an assassin.
