Some days just seriously take it out of you. I'm not really sure why that happened yesterday, but when I got home, all I wanted to do was crawl into bed and not move for a very long time.

The day started out so well, too: I got a phone call from

There is something wrong with you Katie =P Good luck with all the work you seem to be having especially since its the stretch leading up to spring break. You'll be fine though and hopefully we'll be able to hang out soon! Let me know if you need anything!

I think I tried my best, but I know I'm going to get an e-mail later from the deputy managing editor cataloguing all the mistakes she spotted in the paper today.

For the record, or even off the record, I think you did a really nice job on something that was really important, and you should be proud of yourself.

Totally off topic (well sorta, the copy ed. part made me think about your summer) - How'd you get the internship/job you had last summer? Did you get experience to justify going away? What did you like/dislike about it?

I'm curious because I'm thinking of striking off this summer as well. Just kinda tired of the same ol' same ol' but I'm still gonna have to pay for my apartment here. =(

I got the internship through the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund editing internship program.. basically you apply and they place you at papers all over the country. I got very, very lucky with the NYT thing. You could end up in New York or LA.. or (like my friend who got accepted for next summer), Rochester, Minnesota. It's a mixed bag!

It was totally worth it though. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much, both from the work and from being on my own in a strange place. Definitely justified going up there. I can't even think of a good way to describe it. The work I did at my job gave me a lot of confidence and confirmed that I want to do newspapers for a while. Really, I don't have much negative to say about it.

Where were you thinking of going? I think it sounds terribly exciting to do something totally new, to have an adventure.

Eh, so-so. I'm just not cut out to be an international journalist, what can I say.

At least you didn't write this horrific deck on a story about Mardi Gras in St. Louis:

Hurricanes flow and beads fly as Columbians
let the good times roll in Soulard

(fyi, hurricanes are a traditional drink at the Mardi Gras fest...although that still doesn't put the deck in good taste, especially since the story mentions New Orleans quite a bit.)

So don't worry, jerk, you're still a winnar <3 !

Egads. Though you weren't responsible for the Scrabble headline, which I might never live down. You're more of a winnar than I. Jerk <3 !
