last weekend, i ventured out of the city into the relative peace and
quiet of connecticut and rhode island. i'd become pretty accustomed to
the level of noise here, so it was a really nice change. i woke
up early and walked up to grand central. on the way i got my
favorite city breakfast: coffee and a bagel from a street vendor in a
cart. for some reason, it just always tastes really good that way. two
hours later, i arrived in new haven, where diego came to meet me. we
set off on a cross-state drive and ended up at watch hill, rhode
island. we walked down a beach (so good to be on a beach again) until
the sky opened up and it became quite damp quite quickly.
watch hill, named one of the best walks in new england by yankee magazine.
here's a good contrast for you:
versus:
yup.
boats!!
a sight for eyes sick of concrete jungle.
storm brewing.. dumb state.
yes, they spell it harbour. sheesh.
it cleared up some for the drive.
least likely asian restaurant ever.
i know this has a reflection of my legs in it, but it was just so nice and verdant i had to include it. trees!!
just.. wow.
for a while it was raining and sunny at the same time. what a country.
eventually, we got back to hartford.
the hartford courant, bastion of connecticut journalism, where diego
has an internship this summer. home of outrageous headline spaces and
many, many editions.
fancypants capitol
and they have their own arch. like the arc de triomphe. except not in france. and other differences too, i'm sure.
i got to tour the courant building and drive around downtown hartford a
bit. it seems like a pretty nice town, though there's kind of a lot of
crime and shootings, which isn't so great. in any case, i enjoyed my
trip a lot, brief as it might have been.
in other news, an exchange i just had with daniel:
webjunkie401 (2:44:09 AM): lol, my japanese sensei told me to drink beer to stay cool
