I had a fairly enjoyable weekend. My dad picked me up from work on Thursday and I took him for dinner at Mel's Diner. As I expected, he was very pleased with their hamburgers. Waiting in my mailbox when I got back to my house was the DVD set of the best reality show ever. The first season of The Mole! I can't wait to watch it again and Yuxi is excited about getting to see it for the first time. In the evening, I went to my last orchestra rehearsal, and things are finally starting to sound right. The percussion section has been lacking a "slapstick" for the entire term. It's an instrument that is basically two long pieces of wood hinged together that you slap toghether to make a whip crack or a slap sound. A few weeks ago, I informed my dad about the lack of a slapstick, and so he ended up making one for me. It sounds great and the orchestra conductor is thrilled with it. Unfortunately, the female percussionist who will be playing it is so timid about making a loud noise with it, and it needs to be played loudly. Maybe it would help if I made her mad before the performance :)
Most of my weekend was spent at my grandmother's house in Brantford, although on Saturday my dad and I drove to Toronto to play in a touch football game with my brother-in-law. It was my first time playing Football, but despite that, my team won. Most of the other players were pretty good, in fact, one of them was a former kicker for the Toronto Argonauts. We were playing on a high school football field that was very wet and so whenever I'd try changing directions while running, it was very hard to keep from slipping. Saturday evening was the big family Easter dinner, which is always enjoyable.
I ended up acquiring quite a few DVD's this weekend. In addition to the first season of The Mole, I got The Incredibles, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and The Stepford Wives. I got lots of Easter chocolate as well.
Today for lunch, I took my parents to The Mongolian Grill. I originally proposed taking them to either Jai Jai Locke (sp?) or The Noodle Hut, but, not surprisingly, my dad was not happy with those suggestions. I wasn't sure if they were going to like The Mongolian Grill, but they really did. My dad was very pleased with his bowl which was packed full of nothing but chicken. In fact, there was barely enough room for even one ladle of sauce, and even that was spilling over the side.
During this coming week is the one and only performance of my orchestra this term. On Monday, we're having a dress rehearsal, and then the actual performance is on Thursday at 8:00. It's free, so anyone in the Waterloo area who likes classical music should come!
