It is strange how a life that begins in a metaphor of "throwness" should in the process of living it, gain meaning, such that the absence or the rupture of this life is marked primarily, with pain and suffering. It is precisely because of life’s "meaningfulness" that we fear to let go of it. Although in the beginning, we must understand something- ( Read more... )

"Thrownness" can literally apply to pairs skating, haha!

But what about aesthetics and Slutskaya? Authenticity and the Salt Lake judging controversy? Virtue ethics and the Asian skater discipline? :)

sayang si slutskaya noh, she was so good in 2005 worlds then she fell apart in the 2006 olympics. arakawa didn't even have to do her triple-triple-triple to beat her. salt lake naman, sale and pelletier were excellent, but the russians really did a more technically compelling program. s&p actually do a much more technical program than their "love story" program, not sure why they didn't do that for the olympics. asian skater discipline, you can also say that of any other kind of discipline! asians rock.

I know right. The Torino ladies fs was the most disappointing major meet in recent history! At least naman Sarah Hughes' win in 02 was the skate of her life. Arakawa superplayed it safe.

I liked S&P's 'Orchid'--way more sophisticated. But Love Story was SO THEM. I wouldn't have had it any other way. B&S had way too many errors and, for me, had little emotion in the program. But on repeat viewings, ang ganda rin pala ng Meditations. Watching it live on Japanese channel BS1 (on Destiny), there's more immediate impact sa Love Story than Meditations.

And yes on Asian discipline. What specific virtue(s) would that be though? Temperance? Courage? Magnanimity?
