In the beginning, there was "darkness."
Then, the "darkness" shed a "tear."
From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born.
Shield claimed it could defend against any attack.
Sword claimed it could slice through anything.
The brothers began a legendary battle.
At the end, both Sword and Shield shattered.
Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and the sparks from the battle became the stars.
As for the jewels, they fell to the ground and became the True Runes--The runes that all other runes were born from.

In my world, the 27 True Runes are the gods that govern the world. They are not unlike forces of nature, though.

That makes sense. Most religion and creation myths spring out of that stuff, I think. You know, trying to explain where lightning and tidal waves come from.

Well, sir, while the creation story is faith based, the True Runes governing the laws of the universe are not. They are as real as you and I.

Is it like, "they walk the earth and everyone knows it," or... what?

Well...a Rune cannot move unless it is attached to a living thing. Even True Runes have to adhere to this law. And every now and again, in history, you'll see a human show up bearing a True Rune. As per their nature, they are often involved in the shaping of human history.

Yeah... there are some weird worlds here...

And then some that are really similar, which is almost weirder.
