Okay, I'm back... We lost the kickball game, by the way.
So as far as relationships and me go, a couple of close friends have pointed out how I always seem to be in long relationships that end after about a year and then suddenly, I bounce back and I'm in a brand new one...for a year. I smell a pattern and so does everybody else. Am I cursed to never be in a truly lasting relationship, or is the true curse to be stuck in a lasting relationship? It has also been pointed out to me that I seem to get over these things pretty quickly. Is there something inherently wrong with me that I'm okay with a breakup as early as the next morning.
Not just with relationships, but I've found that I feel a lot better about a lot of things after sleeping on it. Like when I saw a dead person lying in the road, or when I was in that car accident that totaled my car, or when I got hit by a car while rollerblading. Sleep just seems to reset my emotions and my mind.
I probably started looking for a new girlfriend or very friendly girl within a couple days or less of Andrea dumping me. Why wait? In July, I was purusing OkCupid and noticed a brand new member in my town. She had a profile that just sounded like she'd be fun to hang out with if even for just one time, so I asked her out to a local bar that same night. We rescheduled for the night after instead. The rest is a vague history.
About Leila: She is a film maker. In fact, I've been in some of her films. In others, she talks about me. Watching them almost feels like a reality show. All of this excites me. Her films really are great. I dare go as far to say they are heartwarming. Since we've started dating, we've gone on numerous "adventures". Many of these end up in her films. I make the distinction between home movies and films because the quality and editing work makes for a very enjoyable experience whether you were there or not. She has been in Time magazine. She's very well-read. Doesn't watch much TV, except for The Wire, on DVD. Her pumpkin chocolate cookies is da bomb. She's hilarious with her "dehydrated sense of humor". There are many more cool things about her, but I'll leave it at that.
In August, I finally scored the elusive and rare Nintendo Wii! It is all that and a bag o' fries. Zelda...awesome! Super Paper Mario...awesome! Metroid Prime 3: Corruption....creamin in my panties oh my gawd. And Wii Sports is VERY fun. I just found out that Golf is fun. Who woulda thunk it? And me & everyone else had their asses handed to them by June's lil nephew in golf. His new name shall be...Lion Forest. Guitar Hero III kicks ass. For all the time I've spent playing it, I could've learned all those songs for real on my real bass. I got DDR too, just cuz I've always wanted a DDR game. I could use the workout too, seeing as I'm so fat, according to everyone. And yes, I have heard it from other people, especially at church. Way to win them souls! I'll be damned to hell if I'm gonna get converted at a church where the people say I'm getting fat. By the way, I'm thinking of starting a thinspiration blog. What do you call it when you can smell a pizza and not have a slice? Divine Thintervention, hahahaha. Okay, now for an accounting joke: What do you call it when 2 staff accountants are running a train on Dorris from Human Resources? Double-entry bookkeeping!!! Hahaha.
So yeah, remember back in April when I said I got a new job as an accountant? It's going great so far. I even got my first raise last month. My manager and one of the accountants from the other firm that I work with had a meeting to go over some stuff I would be working on and at the end they commended me on the great job I was doing. I was the first to get hired for this contract my firm has with the government and already 3 of my coworkers that have more accounting experience than I have been fired.
Did I mention how awesome Leila is? She was talking to her hair dresser and she said her son is an accountant for Reznick Group in Bethesda. They're like the 17th largest accounting firm in the nation and their employees get to travel a lot. This is a place that I've been thinking about going to work at for months. I still plan on staying with my current firm for at least a year or until I pass the CPA exam completely though, before I move on to bigger and better things. It's just awesome to have connections like that. One of my friends at church works at Ernst & Young(The 3rd largest) and her husband works at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu(2nd largest).
I graduated finally, from Strayer with my Bachelor's degree and 150 credits. Well, technically, I have amassed a total of 170 credits. 150 undergrad credits is significant because it's the minimum required to be a CPA candidate. As soon as my last quarter ended, I sent my application and transcripts to the board and I just heard back that I got approved last Friday. Next, I scheduled the first part of the CPA Exam for this coming Monday. I plan on spending the rest of the weekend (after I finish updating this) studying intensively for the exam. I'm taking the Auditing & Attestation section. The exam has 4 sections that you have to schedule separately. It's supposedly the most difficult section and it's the longest(4 1/2 hours). I've been listening to audio study CDs in my car just about everywhere I drive, I use my lunch breaks to read my study book, and when I'm at home I use practice software. Once I pass one section, I have to finish the other 3 within 18 months or else I'll have to retake the ones outside of that time window. My manager had to take the old written exam 5 times to pass. My uncle passed it on the first try. I plan to pass it in 2 tries or less. Nowadays, it's completely computerized. Maybe I'll get my own place after I pass the exam. Who knows? In the mean time, I'm saving up for a house.
Back in September, June got me to join a kickball team with her bro & Bryan. It's been a lot of fun, even if we only won 2 games. Adult kickball, for those who aren't familiar, is a "social sport", which means you get to drink beer. It's pretty awesome. Last night was our playoff game and it was 35 degrees out supposedly, but I still wore shorts. After a jog around the field you don't feel cold no more.
Back in September, I made good on my decision to go skydiving. Shakira went too and we both had a blast. She even got a video made of her doing it. Everything moves very slowly when you're free fallin. Pullin the chute feels like getting yoinked by God. I even got to stear the parachute and do dizzyingly fast spins. Shakira and I plan on doing this annually now, so start saving up money so you can join us next time.
On Columbus Day, I was scheduled to work, even though it was a federal holiday and I had nothing planned for me to work on. My manager was gonna let us leave early and then one of the other accountants from the other firm started having a hissy fit about it and found work for us to do, but I was determined to leave early, so I finished it by 1pm and hightailed it outta there with a plan in my mind. I told Leila we should go winetasting and then hike up to the top of Sugarloaf mountain to watch the sunset and then get dinner at Cracker Barrel. All of these things came true and it was the best Columbus Day ever... except for the Injuns, of course.
So yeah, that's what I've been up to. Oh, and I'm doing a 5 mile run at Quantico next Saturday.
