He really ought to stop that, because on Gallifrey that sort of thing will eat you alive, but he can't. He'll still do something that hurts dreadfully if it means sparing someone he loves - even if it hurts them both, because he feels it's worth it. He's not very good at actually portraying that, though, because Time Lords aren't supposed to. So he stumbles over it and gets snappish and awkward and quiet - which isn't so different from what he did before, but it's got worse. It would be easier not to care, but he knows what will happen if that works, and it's horrifying.
Five thinks Sarah is absolutely brilliant, because she's Sarah. Sometimes he feels uncomfortable because she's entirely too good at breaking down his barriers and cutting through his avoidance, but that's also one of the things he loves about her, and it all gets rather confusing. He doesn't mind though, because he's just ecstatic that he can talk to her and that she's here. He always regretted not pulling her into a hug on the Dead Zone, but everything was going so fast and she had her Doctor already.
(Also I want to hop into that car and ride around with Four and Sarah.)

(XD YES. And then Four ignores her and they get lost and she gets her smug "I told you so" look.)
