Tomorrow I leave Kyoto for Tokyo, where I'll take a train to my farm. Can't really believe how quick the time has passed. Kyoto has been lovely, I may have a little case of temple fatigue (templed out), but my favourites were the quiet temples, non-features in guidebooks and hence not a target for the crowds. There were students EVERYWHERE, cos they're all on some shuugaku ryoukou, which is like graduation travel. Cool yeah? We should have them in Singapore, then absolutely SWARM sacred areas. Yeah you can tell how I love the student gundan. Goddddd.
I have tried a public bath here. Full, naked glory (haha) but damn it was actually quite food.
The food here is so good. Like, stuff at the convenience stores (conbini) are *hearts*. I've not actually bought very many things at all, don't want to add to my luggage, but I'll prob get stuff when I get to Tokyo. And the souvenirs here are beyond expensive. I think I'll lug back an entire pack of japanese confectionery though. Oooooh.
Too much to say taht I don't know how to summarise it. I went to a Meiji Restoration museum exhibition today though, really liked that, though I got kicked out at 4.30 when the museum closed, before I got to really go through everything. Esp since I took more time cos everything's in Japanese.
Met lots of Japanese people, especially when I go hiking the mountains. The old people here are SO fit, like they're all over 70 and they can all complete the hike. I like the older generation, they're a lot friendlier? Maybe it's like this modernisation shit that the young generation (repeat after me, "those young people") are somehow different? Same case perhaps in Singapore, and I'm probably one of those new age 'young people', but well. Who am I to judge my own kind.
The buses here are so efficient as well (although it's bloody 3 bucks per ride, even if it's one stop). You get on at the back door, get off and pay in the front. Very organised. Though I still prefer EZ-Link.
