My family is out visiting this week from Indiana. It's hard to come up with stuff to do with them because they've been here so many times. We toured the Japanese Garden at the Washington Park Arboretum and hit the Elysian for some micro brews for my dad.
Later I took my brother to the Big Black cover show,"Fucking About Songs" at the Jules Maes Saloon.
It's so nice to have somebody around to go do stuff with. There's no way I could have dragged B there otherwise.
I can't believe how long it's been since I've seen some live music.
There were about 10 different performers that each did 2 or 3 songs. It was great, except for one act (you know who you are).
Any lead singer who just has to do a t-shirt change onstage while setting up is a wanker. (oh no, this vintage gym shirt is too chafing, I must take it off and allow my pectorals to breathe for a moment)
Steve didn't think many of them captured the appropriate midwestern angst to do Big Black justice, but there were some damn fine performances. I particularly loved punk rock marimbist
Erin Jorgensen's version of "Cables" and "Bad Houses" I wish I had gotten the whole thing, but my memory card was full.
PS -
Fuck everything Apple. I spent a day and a half trying to get software that would convert a .mov file so I could rotate it. I hate that my camera takes movies in quicktime format.
Steve Jobs' blood shall be spilled this day!!!!
